OK so this is my first bulk grow and would like to know if this sound right? also a few questions thanks. Going with coir/coffee/gypsum at 70% 10.5Q /25% 3.75Q /5%.75Q. 12x19x3.5 sub depth mono tub
Hydrating coir: one block of coir(bed a beast) hydrated in one gallon of 160 degree water in cooler for approx. one hour.
Coffee: 15 cups spent coffee ground dried added to hydrated coir.(Should I hydrate the coffee to field cap. before adding to coir?)
Gypsum: 3 cups of powder Gypsum to mix when adding spent grounds
Then bring whole mix to field capacity. Next mix all ingredients thoroughly then allow to cool to a handleable temp and place inside of dbl. oven bags for pasteurization. Place bag inside of large pot. Left open for pressure release. then weigh down with plate, bowl etc. Keeping top of bag above water to keep water from entering. Heat Sub. to approx. 160 degrees core temp. Remove close bag and allow to cool.
Then after cooled in large mixing try mix sub. and spawn thoroughly add to mono tub covered in black trash back and placed in closet for incubation. After 3 to 5 day or full colonization remove bag and case then place into fruiting conditions.
also how long should i keep the bag in the pot for pasteurization? it is about 12Q.

looks like you got a good thing goin their kupa. keep us updated. i don't think it matters if you hydrate the coffee before you put it in. as long as the final mix is brought to field capacity.

I would just throw in ~170 degree water (try not to go above 170) in the bucket with the brick and put the top on. If you have something better insulated like a cooler that would be more ideal. The idea is to have it sit in 140-170 degree water for a period of 1+ hours in that temp zone.

How long do you guys let your sub cool for before mixing in the spawn?
Also can i just break up the spawn in the jar by beating it on a tire or something? and then break it up kinda small or leave it in small chunks?
I would think that i would want to spread it out as much as possible through out the sub correct?

let it cool for a few hours. tire is good for breaking up spawn. break it up completely. each individual grain will serve as inoculation points for your sub.

I find it easier to load up quart jars and give them a 2 hour, 160 degree water bath.
