Can somebody please post a pic of healthy colonised honey water, I'm not sure if mine's okay.. it's a bit murky and has powdery stuff at the bottom.

In a healthy jar of mycelium, the mycelium will(should) be a bright white, and kind of floating in the middle, as if suspended. From what I know, when there's yellowish chunks floating at the very bottom of your jar then it is either contaminated or the honey/water ratio was not accurate. Out of about 6 or 7 jars of mycelium(using the microwave tek) I only got 1 healthy jar.

try this:
3 teaspoons light malt extract 1+ Cups of water 2 1pt Jars Favorite Strain of Spores Big Pyrex Container (microwave safe) Microwave Towel
I add the Malt Extract and 1 Cup of water (I usually add a tad bit more water, less than 1/4 Cup, for evaporation..) to the pyrex container, place towel over the top (to reduce/eliminate boil over), stick in the zapper for 10 minutes. I immediatly remove the pyrex container (leave the towel on for now) and bring it to my work room. Now I remove the towel and work quickly. Open the lid of one jar and fill 1/2-3/4 full, close the lid and tape your hold, repeat for second jar. If you have any extra liquid, toss it. Wait for the jars to completly cool. I like to put a fan on them for a couple of hours so I can introduce the spores ASAP, this reduces the possibility of contams a bit, instead of waiting for the jars to cool naturally and allow possible foreign spores/contaminants to germinate/take over. When the jars are completly cool, innoculate with your favorite spores, I generally use at least 2cc (usually 3) of spore solution per jar. This allows for massive germination, and contams can't take hold. Everyday I gently "roll" the water around (just enough to mix around the mycelium that is forming on the bottom of the jars). When the jars are fully colonized (* see note below), use the liquid mycelium to innoculate sterilized media filled jars with 5cc of mycelial water(I prefer Rye Grain), shake the jars and in 70-72 degree (room temp) temps, I see growth in 24 hours! Not just a little growth mind you, massive mycelial growth all around the jars, it's amazing. i havent yet but it sounds super

It cuts down colonization time of a jar by a week or so, if you innoculate using mycelium instead spores. Just because I got quite a few contams doesn't mean everyone else will. I was actually pretty sloppy when I made the jars, also in the tek I use you use a microwave to sterilize water/jars, and thats not the best way to go about that.

No Psyconaut I used karo syrup, not honey, but I had the pc too hot and it carmelized. It looks funny but birdseed in quart jars shot up with it colonized in 10 days which I feel is good.

Whats the procedure for sterilizing liquid in pc's, i mean, i know it wont boil because of the pressure, thats the whole point of pc's, but the liquid would still expand right? Putting honey water in a jar and putting it at 240+ degrees wouldn't make the jar bust if it was screwed tight? or do we put holes in them?

Oh, man... That's why ALL the teks say TURN THE METAL PLATE UPSIDE DOWN SO THE RUBBER IS UP, NOT AGAINST THE GLASS.
AND... You don't PC Honey Water!

"...You don't PC Honey Water!"
Really......You don't ???? Hmmm.... Seems to work for me!
I use 1 pint jars with plastic lids that have a single hole in the center. Cover with tinfoil, PC for 15 min. Think my liquid cultures could do better by not PCing?
Enjoy

Well, I'm glad it works for ya, but the tek says if you heat it too much the honey caramelizes... So I'll pass.
