Coco coir tek idea.
    #793619 - 08/03/02 01:50 AM (21 years, 9 months ago)

Its so late it's now early and I can't sleep. Thus my mind was wondering and I came up with an idea. Why not directly innoculate coco coir, let it colonize and then use it to do a bulk manure tek.

I figured since mycilium rips though coir so fast it would allow one to get a large amount of spawn quickly, thus reducing the chance of contams getting a footing. Also, since coir is so light and airy when it would be mixed into the manure it would provide a very thorough innoculation, further speeding colonization and reducing contam risk. And, potentialy best of all for those with a limited buget, this method could totaly bypass the need for a pressure cooker.

My only worries are weather or not spores will germinate on coco coir and weather or not it is nutritious enough to support the mycilium untill its mixed with a more nutritious medium. Water retention might also be a problem.

I'm going to try this method soon by just putting some microwave sterilized coco coir in an oven bag and squirting in some spore water. Then if it colonizes I'll mix it in with some poo and hope for the best. If this tek idea is original (and works) then I think it might be the first that could allow you to case with the same material you used to start with.

Once I try this I'll start up a detailed grow log, I just gotta firgure out what strain to try and order it....I kinda wanna try the new Huautla strain, but theres something about gt's that intrigues me.

Ugh...sooo tired....must sleep, I hope this makes sence.
(sorry if this idea has already been suggested.)

coir is not nutritious at all that's why it's used as a casing layer that's also why it resists contams so well.

You will need to add something like millet to your coir to provide nutrition. There were a thread or two about this a few months ago.

I was thinking about the nutrition problem. Adding something else like millet would work but it wouldn't allow the mycilium to bind to all the available coir surface. I figured maby if the coir was hydrated with and soaked in something like seaweed water or that stuff you get after boiling straw it might become just nutritious enough. Problem is the risk of contams goes up abit then.

You could just use a concentrated myclelium like spawn mate to make ideal nutrition. I believe that is exactly what mycotek's special substrate is.

If all you want is quick growth, just hydrate the coir with a dextrose solution.

PM me with any cultivation questions.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.
