How can I cut parts of a video?
    #7934489 - 01/26/08 11:23 AM (16 years, 6 days ago)

The only thing I need is to snip certain segments from videos such as .avi and discard the rest. So something simple which includes that feature would be very nice. I don't need a lot of bells and whistles- something simple and intuitive GUI and freeware as I don't need it so bad I'd want to pay for it.

Any ideas?

Not super easy, but in a crunch you can use mencoder (part of mplayer). It is command line, but works well. You can tell it to start and end transcoding at marks specified by time or frame count. Once you split everything apart, you can splice the AVIs back together and reindex.

MS movie maker (you should have it if you have XP) can do that. You can only use the windows compression though.

VirtualDub is good freeware. It can cut one part, not sure if you can cut multiple parts ant stitch it together again. Picking a compression for audio and video is easy and works great. It doesn't really have a intuitive GUI, but it's not that hard to learn/understand.
