Ok. So Im about to burth some 1 quart Jars of WBS. I was plannning on cold shocking before I try a larg outdoor bed. The only thing is The WBS will crumble as soom as it comes out of th jars. So...
I want to put all the little crumbles into some cheese cloth and cold shock that way. But becouse of the crumbling there will be more surface area=faster absobtion of water?..IE.. should I dunk shorter? Im not sure if this is a good idea so I wanted to see what you guys thought first. Anyone?

if you are doing it outside, then get a big bucket of water and soak some straw in there overnight, and get some wet poo and dig a hole.. mix all of it together in the hole with your spawn... then cover with another layer of straw, poo, and spawn.. then put some good dirt over it lightly.. about 3/4 inch deep, and water lightly.. then you should have some good flushes next season... I have done this, and it works fine... plus no sterilizing... you just let nature take its course...

How come you are cold-shocking a tropical species? You are growing cubies right? So that wouldn't effect it at all cept maybe slow it down, IMO. Just dunking it, in itself resets it and if using a casing you need a very bright light, very close to the substrate. So it can tell the pins where to form. That is why we often get shrooms around the edge of a tray when they could be every where. I never even thought of it but it was mentioned yesterday in another forum and that made sense. The contamn bag did have a light 6 inches away on the side that is growing crazy so anything is possible.

after its fully colonized and reaches the surface... really, just wait and make sure you water the bed.. dont soak it... just a light watering every other day, or when it dries out, untill you see pins... mine usually wouldnt show up in cali till about weed harvest time.. end of oct or november... but then again, it gets shitty hot here, so I made the bed right around the time I planted my outdoor herb garden, around 420... 2 years and still running, it still flushes at the same time every year, and a few lil ones here and there when conditions are right... the fun ones to make are wavy caps.. I made a few beds in washington when I visited my fam when I was a kid.. I love going up there now, cause me and my friends shroom balls up there with the beds we made a couple of years ago... its great...

Ok, that makes sence. No cold shocking. Ive got a great place picked out for the bed. In the side of a steap hill. The sea breeze comes right over it. Right off the ocian. Under some trees, no direct sun. The strain is US Virgin Island. I mean, you cant get any better than that. Any one else want to throw some advice at me? It all helps. Thanks

If you do it exactly like I said, you will have good mushie mushie time... realy, there is not much else to it... outdoor cultivation is the closest you will come to simplicity when growing mushrooms.. especially cubensis.. poo, straw, and spawn.. lots of it in a hole.. cover and simmer for a couple months.. haha.. not literally simmer...
