Is this normal?

this is my 3rd batch of cakes useing pf tek (brf and verm). i have 7 cakes all fully colonized. I waited one week and did a dunk and roll before i put them into the fc (93 rh @78deg) and they looked fine then after 3 days i noticed a few things. The mycellium started to grow on the perlite and for the past few days has continued to fan out. Then i also started to see brown water droplets form on some spots of the cakes. This batch doesnt look anything like my last two. any info would help thanks

your cakes are releasing metabolites to fight off contamination. It is normal. Just look for other discoloration and post pics when u can.

They were birthed early. Not enough light and fresh air exchange. You need a larger layer of foil, don't ever have the cake touch the perlite.

don't have the cake touch the perlite, because your mycelium will try to colonize the perlite

That and contaim easy, plus you might not ever get a second flush. Fix it now or pay.

there on foil abt an inch larger than the cake itself. Put them on a bigger one? Also i did wait a week after they colonized the entire jar. Light is florescent 12/12 and i fan at least 5 times a day

these just look way different than the last 2 times. They got alot of knots the first few days. Thats when i noticed that the mycelium was fanning out onto the perlite.

You want about, at least two inches of foil around the radius of the cake. With mycelium knots they would pin right away, mine do because I don't pack the substrate, gives room for growth. But you should be fine. Make that light indirect, you need to make some changes so it starts to pin, but you're on your way. Keep us updated.

I would recommend going to a pet co and buy a bubbler with check valve, it's about 13$ all together. Helps with FAE, and it has a filter. Get the 35dB one, it's damn quite. I see GREAT results since upgrading.
