i started my first brf jars last night and noced them up, thats when it really hit me. i didnt have a place that is 80 degrees to put them in. i got my tub and put a blanket that i let sit in front of a heater for a lil while in let it cool down then put the jars in followed by another blanket in an attempt to at least give them insulation for the night. this morning i moved them next to a heater, i checked back on the temp, i dont have anything to find the actual temp but heard anything a lil above room temp will do, so i cracked the tub and put my hand in it felt a lil better than room temp. it stayed there all day and i just put together a two tub assembly with the bottom tub containing water and a submersible heater then placed the other tub into that, i put a blanket down and then the jars. my house isnt that cold but its not 80 so the jars didnt experience dramatic temp changes. my question is should i b ok even after moving them around so much, i did the best i could to keep them from light. i also gave them a good shake before putting them into the chamber, since ive heard it helps the spores spread. im guessing ill b ok and am gonna wait but was just looking for either some reassurance, or a heads up for failure. neone help me out
sry about the long ass post, i felt it was better to explain the whole situation. thx guys

shaking is not necessary for pf cakes. people do that for grains.

Do you have anything covering the holes in the lids of your jars? Shaking your jars up may have jacked up your vermiculite barrier. As far as incubation temperatures go, room temperature is fine. No need to raise the temperature, especially if you can't actually measure it. Over 86 degrees, and the colonization speed will start dropping very quickly. Just put them in a dark cupboard and you'll be fine.

you should consider building an incubator. also, if you have a dark cabinet above a refridgerator, that tends to be above room temp.
good luck!

yea thedefone i have aluminum foil covering the top of the jars but no tape. hopefully i didnt mess up the verm layer it hadnt even crossed my mind. thx though cuz if nething at least i learned the reason to not shake the jars, hopefully ill b ok. there wasnt really that much room left in the jar so i dont think it could have moved around too much.

you don't actualy need to keep em in the dark. all of my jars are colonized with pleanty of light around them. you don't need any type of incubation, unless it's fridged in your house.

my house usually isnt that cold but i would say at night the temp in my room can drop to prob high 50s lower 60s and doesnt get much warmer than that during the day, at least not right now its been cold for the area. so i figured i might as well take the extra care.
