God vs. another Higher Power

There was an article (no link) comparing the happiness quotient between traditional religion followers (God believers) and New Age/non-traditional religion followers (Higher Power believers).
I am confused by the differentiation in deities.
In my understanding they seem interchangable except for number of letters/words:
God: undefinable First Cause
Higher Power: undefinable First Cause
Can someone help me out?

One is the Christian god and the other is gods/goddesses.

Many Christians envision god as a "guy in the sky". Many non-Abrahamic religious or spiritual people envision a trancendental, immanent, ground of being. One is empowering, one is like a father figure you have to impress.

Both are different flavors of the same causality ice cream. Both fail at being palatable, although this is a question of tastes.

Well initially the hebrew word for spirit was a feminine however either the translation to Greek or somewhere along the line it went masculine. That is just because the image of the male being a provider, yada, yada yada, not really a big deal. I would like to see the comparisons between the two, wealth , hapiness, suicide, divorce, drug addiction....stuff like that would be interesting to compare.

I suggest an expensive therapist.

Dude, are you ever serious? Higher Power = impersonal and non judgemental intelligence or force.
God = Big daddy in the sky.

God and angles for all we know could just be an extra-terrestrial society who were considered divine beings and a 'higher power'. Makes more sense to me that way than some guy in the sky, especially when you study the universe and realise that there is no more mystery to the sky, so he can't really just hide there anymore lol :P

G*d has no need to hide. G*d constantly presents g*d in all we can perceive. We just aren't aware enough to recognize g*d in what g*d presents, to find g*d behind that dream.

Seems to me the comparisons would be less about God/higherpower as much as religion : strict authoritarianism/ new age do what feels right.
Some people need rigid structure in their lives, some need more relaxed guidelines.
It would be hard to pin down really. I've known Christians who think of God more as an everywhere presence just like non traditional believers.
