Growing potent shrooms from a weak parent - substrate or genes?

Hypothetically speaking, assume a first flush print was taken from a specimen grown from a BRF cake and cased w/ peat/verm. If the fruits of this flush were all minimally potent (very weak) due to less than favorable conditions such as a very thin substrate layer, would the spores be doomed to produce nothing but weak fruits?
Or would spores taken from these weak fruits, given ideal growing conditions such as cased grain spawned to poo, coir, coffe, etc. and a deep, healthy substrate result in more potent fruits?
Thanks for your help. This community is awesome.

Good point - multispore is a crap shoot.
Take the same situation as above, except clone the weak fruit to a LC and introduce the new mycelium to optimal conditions and a very nutritious substrate. Will the resulting fruits be much more potent or are they genetically weak like the fruit that was cloned?

Doesn't matter if its LC....To get faster better traits your only option is to isolate on agar...and it doesn't get any more potent...Potency is genetic

I dont know about that guess it matters if the weak mushrooms were from genetics or groth conditions. I have seen some talk about the clones they might do better getting tired of one food and switching over to another but that was just chat.

So growing out the clone in much better conditions would be the only way to determine if the either the genes or first grow environment was the culprit causing lack of potency?
