Say hypothetically...

someone planted some marijuana in their house to veg in March using the sun for light (but indoors because it still snows here in march), then once it was consistently warm enough outside for the plant to live it was transplanted outside around may/June. Would that plant still wait until a 12/12 light cycle in early fall? Or would it be best to get an autoflowering strain?
Come to think of it, what strain would you recommend for outdoor growing in colorado? Keep in mind most of the forest land here is around 8-9 thousand feet in elevation....
Thanks!

The plant will be spindly and weak from insufficient light if you grow it inside in the sunlight during that time. better to wait until it's positive degrees Celsius outside and skip the indoors bit.

Heya,
I grew (vegged for looks, of course) a plant indoors on north-western window a couple of years back, I think I put it to grow in may tho. It grew pretty well considering the direct sunlight didn't shine to the window too many hours a day, maybe 5-7 max and it was setting sun. I'd say if one havs a southern exposure it definately will help the plant as it has time to establish good rootsystem and put some effort into stem and leaves aswell before taking it outside. I don't say it will grow fast or very bushy tho.
Some normal 12/12 strains will start flowering even on wrong light cycle when they are old enough but I wouldn't count on it. Propably you should try to find some "early" strains or maybe autoflowering strains like Stuporsonic (or Lowryder), if daylenght is a problem for normal strains. It all depends on day lenghts on the hypotethical place of growing which I don't really know at all Those strains work at least here pretty north (much northern than Colorado) where summer is short but summerdays are long.

yeah, we get about 15 hours of daylight here during the summer so that shouldn't really be a problem.
What about altitude? Will being at 9000 feet affect them? it can get pretty windy and cold up there, even in the summer...

Heya,
Cold can and will certainly affect negatively to the growth (and flowering) but unless there are night frosts the plants should make it out alive. Of course long periods of relative cold weather weaken the plants and eventually might kill them. I really have no idea of the temps and fluctuations there or any specific temps for cannabis plants. Here the temps can get quite low on summer aswell, so if we are talking about at lowest +5 to 10C night temperatures it shouldn't kill them, might give them nice coloring tho.
Maybe someone living in same kind of climate can shed more accurate information but thats what I think.
As for lightcycle, when the days shorten towards autumn the daylenght will propably induce flowering, the question is if the plant has enough time to complete flowering before it gets too cold/dark, on higher altitudes I think the problem is in the temps. Autoflowering plants can start flowering earlier when the daylenght is 18 hours or so (as it is here around midsummer) and they can finish the flowering before winter creeps and extends its arms to embrace the land. That's why fast "early" varities could help.

Sorry I was trying to scare the evil marijuana bugs away from this thread. AP knows what I'm talking about. By all means continue the discussion.

So anyway, anybody have any suggestions for good strains for colorado outdoor? It seems an autoflowering hybrid might be the best option (so we can veg indoors and then flower outdoors when there's 16 hours of light, but any ideas on which strain would be best for the cross? White russian seems like a good idea, there's no way it's nastier here than siberia.

Eh, the only info I have comes from the breeders websites.
Thanks for the info Gilrand, I'll read up on all of those that I can.
