I cannot obtain Hpoo anymore but I have an abundant supply of coco-coir. The problem is that I have yet to find a good tek or recipe for it. If anyone has one can you just post it as a link.

It's been popular for a while if your persistent with your searching, and using the often overlooked related threads below you should be able to find more. But here is a nice pictorial write up by Agar

80/20 here aswell but I use some hydrated lime to adjust ph. I need to get some gypsum though for a long term adjustment.

Why all the talk of coco-coir these days? Isn't it pretty much nutritionless? Or is this just to replace the verm in a basic casing?

Arggggg! It seems this very topic is covered in almost every post lately. Once again, coir IS full of nutes and works great as a substrate either by itself or mixed with other ingredients such as coffee. Some people use it as a "casing" layer but in reality its not a casing layer, its just another layer of substrate.

Coir is a close second to hpoo in nutrients, and a very good substitute for feces.
Try 60/40 coir/verm with 5-10% gypsum added by volume.
For example, if you are preparing a brick of coir, you should add about 8-10 quarts of verm, and 1-2 quarts of gypsum.

Coir is great stuff. I notice some OLD posts every now and again and people used to think it it wasn't a good substrate. Times (and opinions) have changed though.

someone i know prefers to leave verm out as coir holds SO MUCH DAMN moisture.

Indeed, straight coir works very well for some. Hell Doc34 cases WBS in straight coir, and he swears by it, with the pics to back it all up!
Coir is awesome, and you are correct, it needs nothing else to fruit nicely, if you have good timing and procedure you can avoid overlay with straight coir.
