PF jar just stoped colonizing
    #7919850 - 01/23/08 01:17 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

Its been in there for aboutr 4 weeks and last week it just stoped colonizing. Looks fine, just not moving. A second PF jar (same syringe) is growing like gangbusters.. is stalling normal and should i just let it sit, or should i try stimulatring it (its 1/2 colonized) by birthing it and rinsing off all the uncolonized stuff and crumble/case or spawn it to some coir?

:pm: me if you have questions about lasers

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

Coir is non nutritious. You can case with it. If the jar isnt doing anything, toss it. I only say this because its just a pf jar.

That is 100% untrue... FYI.. coir is used to spawn too by MANY people in this forum and IS nutritious. as a matter of fact its compareable (based of some results) to hpoo/straw mixes..

flip the cake over and knock it in your hand to crunch it down on the dry layer and give it some room to breathe..

i've heard coarse verm makes it colonize faster too.

make sure you are keeping it in a good temp range.

BREATHE MO FUCKA BREATHE
remove all foil tape etc or what not . even micropore tape if you have.
flip it. palm strike the bottom to create a gap (since cakes shrink while colonizing)and keep it laying upside down.
youll be good.

False. Coir IS nutritious. As proven several hundred times on this forum coir is a powerful substrate.

I can't believe people still think this. Just goes to show how much parroting goes on.

Sounds good to me. However, if you are going to be disturbing the verm layer like that, I might suggest adding micropore tape to prevent possible contamination. But, I would do this and see if getting the cake off of the glass helps.

I like spreading several ready gallons of coir onto the floor and make coir angels.:crazy2: i believe it stops that whole non nutritious/nutritious debate

You probably have more experience with cakes than I do. Just a safety suggestion.

coir is the shit, but is lacking slightly in nitrogen... Do not spread untrue or unconfirmed info in the forum.. it tends to make things harder on those who are willing to read and learn, instead of just saying what they think..I.e. "coir is non nutritious..."

Its nutritious to the point where alot of cats dont like to use it for casings, because it overlays very easily, because it is so easily and quickly colonized..

I JUST started a bulk grow using coir, and let me tell you, the growth is EXPLOSIVE... just super fast colonization... I cannot wait to see when its done...

Oatman has a tek on here for spawning to coir, and it shows him expanding the brick of coir.. no pasteurization or sterilization.. and nothing else.. just coir that was spawned with grain, and his results were fantastic... search for "spawn to coir" to see pics of his harvest...
