In a recent post the person mentioned most of the fruits we're sterile. What are the causes of this and is it a common occurrence? Thanks

its just genetics.. chance, luck if you will, this just happened to me 100+ fruits with only 8 usable caps for printing. i would think that those caps carry the genetic gene to be sterile more then a normal print because of the flush it cam out of... please sum one correct me if im wrong.

I've had a few sporeless strains pop over the years. If they have the other qualities desired, it's a great trait since there's no mess if you wait until after work to harvest a flush. Sometimes, they're only half sterile, and you get zebra stripes on the gills, such as these Redboys. They're fairly rare mutations, but do occur. RR

wait RR, will the few prints i made that cam from a 99% sterile tub have a higher chance of creating sterile shrooms ?

I wouldn't think so..because when using multispore you get a motley looking crew of mushrooms..
You can carry the trait over by cloning and other such methods of isolating a *single* speciman.
But I've had many sterile fruits here lately..matter of fact it looks like my Oaxaca fruit might not even have many spores in it at all..sadly..
But I have made syringes from these sterile flushes fine and my next batch was reguler..some with spores some showing sterilty.
When you use multispore..that's what you get.. some sterile and some waiting to shower spores.
But like RR said..clone the sterile and keep a master, if the fruit has the desired traits that is.
I need spore prints myself..so I just go with the biggest with spores to clone..:).. Anyways hope some of this helped..
