Is anyone else really excited? It seems like so many things have happened this off-season to keep me interested that its almost like the season didn't end. Detroit fleeced Florida in a huge blockbuster deal, the Mitchell report was released, and everyone is on pins and needles waiting for the Twins to trade Santana, who is my almost anyone's estimation the best pitcher in baseball today.
On the hometown front, the Cubs signed the best player remaining in a Japanese league that is quickly becoming a AAAA affiliate of the Majors. Kosuke Fukudome was one of the stars of the World Baseball classic and is a several time MVP of the Japanese leagues. He'll be playing center field for the Cubs and will hopefully somehow infuse a dose of plate discipline into the team that Sweet Lou seems content to let swing at anything anywhere near plate.
Not that there is any hope for fucking Soriano.
Overall, I am very optimistic. The Brewers are our only real competition in the division, and they have lost some key players while replacing them with shaky talent. I am looking forward to seeing them close with Gagne or Turnbow, instead of CoCo Cordero every fucking game. And Ned Yost still sucks, his presence alone in the dugout must immediately saddle a team with a 5-game handicap, right? Did I mention the Reds hired DUSTY FUCKING BAKER? I hope Aaron Harang enjoyed using his arm for the first 26 years of his life, because its probably going to be useless for anything more strenuous than wiping his ass when DB gets through with him.
So yeah, baseball soon.
I can't wait.

Oh yeah. It's been a good year for both of my teams. I'll just say ditto to everything you posted about the Cubbies and what's going on with them, meanwhile in yet another sign the world may very well end soon, the Rockies signed Matt Holliday, and being in Denver that week, all media sources reported that it was a good overall feeling between both parties (no easy task when Scott Boras is a guy's agent) and Tulo got himself the highest ontract ever for a player with less than 200 at bats. For what he's going to get, even if he hits .220 (he won't) it's worth it to see him locked up for 7 years.
I'm stoked. Not to mention off to Arizona for spring training and March Madness and out of this amazingly brutal winter we've had.
