i thought dark caps is from spores landing on top of it from the taller mushrooms.

What the heck species is that, and are those brown spores? Don't eat anything without a positive ID. That doesn't look like a cube. Got any more still growing? RR

i have seen contamination cause caps like that. It should be safe to eat but I would not use spores from that cake

It's your time here and now, make it a spiritual trip. These caps are your sign Those are pretty dark caps I gotta say but cubes non the less. Was the spore print black ? Or were they RedBoys ?

This caseing had jacked off water content. I don't know if its what casues that dark ripple, but it looks like the cap started to gets its wavey cap trait before the cap opened. You can see an obvious dry cap next to it. So when I started to try and pump it full of water, the caps started to burst at the seems, like they drank more water than they thought they could. Those are Dhaps btw.

In that pic I did the latter. I did not re-hydrate the caseing after the first flush- the day before I was going to harvest I noticed the sub/caseing was pretty dry- and these are the same mushrooms, just different flushes. Multispore yes.
I had another theory that it happens when the fruits are dry and you apply water and they plump up a little weird like that.

I really think it has to do with how it "felt" in the FC. Even the other mushroom on the cake to the left has the ripple and the cap is very closed. Even though the cake next to it looks pretty different, just the area in the FC can change the apperance of a deveolping mushroom.
Everyone should try it. Pick out a large pin and fuck with it. Dab it dry every couple of hours and see how it turns out, or do the oppisite, choose one mushroom and heavy mist the shit outa it every few hours.
It will change the way it develops and how it looks. And characteristics that happen due to outside interference isn't cloanable really. You can't clone the changes in apperance due to enviormental issues.
So, in the end, if you scar a new forming mushroom, let it develop , then clone it- you wont clone the scar.

What fruiting body ISN'T mutated in some way. The albino mushroom was not albino due to enviormental issues, once that primordia started cooking he knew he would be albino.
In the case of the mushroom thats the topic of the post, whatever happend to it was 'happening' while it was forming.
You can see how saturated developing fruits can look very different from the flushes before and after. Like a tree growing around a rock, or the flesh on a mushroom trying to deal with pooling bodies of water on the caps while it grows.
You know what, I am gonna have some spawn ready soon, I will make a grow and try to replicate more so. I'll tweak one to express the ripples, and one thats the oppisite.

It's fine, no contams. Some are darker than others, plus I think your camera maybe is making it look even darker.
KSSS caps are often dark brown.

IMO, the cap is dark because you didn't let it completely open and flatten out before picking it. Notice how pin heads are dark and slowly lighten as the caps open. Once completely open, they are much lighter than they were as pins. It also looks like there are some spores on top of the cap.

True, true, but you know for max potency per gram you should harvest before the veil even tears. I am sure you know that, just adding a few cents.

Yes, but for printing you want the caps nice and flat.
