IMO floros are best in this order.
T5, T8, CFL then T12.
You can also funk around with custom ballest setups and change things.
I personally use T8s, perkopsis love it.

i do not agree, cacti like lots of light
columnar cacti will get very skinny under fluros but perkopsis will do fine under fluros

yea thats true, if you have some tall cacti your going to want somthing that will be strong enough to reflect around your entire enclosure.
But for a peyote farm, floros ftw.
MH and HPS would be great alternatives aswell.. just gotta deal with heat and not to burn em.

i have grown peyote under cfl's and the pups still get a little etiolated
but if you had enough of them it would prolly be ok
i took out all the cfl's and put up one 400watt hps/mh digital with the hps bulb in, they are growing alot better.

I use two t8s. One is 2800, and one is 2950 lumen. They seem to work fine.

Supposedly, if you punish certain cacti with low light and scaring it will increase the amount of alkaloids that may or may not be present. So you might want to, like, give it lots of light so that doesn't happen.

CFL are complete junk if u ask me, but its just my opinion. I think having the disposable built in ballest is non sense so I dont buy em.. Id rather have standard floros.
but yes they will work fine for growing a large assortment of plants, go for 80w per sq foot.

it sucks to be poor. i'll never have enough money to go hps/mh so it's best to invest in HO T5's i guess (?)

T8 shoplight fixtures are like $10 and then you gotta buy the bulb and they are cheap. you can overdrive the bulbs by putting in larger electronic ballasts and make them about as bright as a T5 HO you can overdrive by as much as 4x by using a 4 bulb ballast to power one bulb. I have had a few sets running at 2x for about 3 years now with no bulb burnouts.

how would i go about doing that, i am very ignorant about lighting, just getting into this, i've always just used regular full spectrum T12's
