couldn't have said it better. i hate it when he goes into those "i was on this trip, and i had this vision...blah blah blah". his stuff gets old real quick. he hardly pushes the envelope as a visionary artist. he found a selling niche, and he ain't letting go of it.

you guys really really dont get it

art i mean

if all you are worring about is fucking sales and fucking creative niches

sad

I'm sorry, that's NOT what I worry about. I like to think of myself as an artist and Alex Grey is what is known as a "sellout" in the art world... precisely BECAUSE all he does is create commercial art for people to "ooh" and "ahh" over and pay big money for.

He's not a bad artist but he honestly isn't a great one. He just sells a lot of his stuff by wearing turtlenecks and claiming to have visions.

Alex Grey is the one worrying about Sales and Niches. He's carved himself a nice one and he's crouching in it and waiting for the checks to pour in.

Don't you fucking DARE tell me I don't "get" art.

if you actualy feel like discussing alexes work insted of just being closminded and simply stating "hes nt god" :smirk: i am more than willing

alex's work are all very similer. he does have a cohsive style, that is...his vision.

that does not mean hes just in it for the money. ior that he found somthing that works and is now milking it for all its worth. hes trying his best to get nurishment out there for peoples sacred center. what ever it may be for you.

hes not the best painter of this or any are, no on is. assuming there is is an extremly infintile way to go about looking at art

that is why you dont get "it"

watch this--->

I think saying that he's "not god" is a pretty valid statement. He's NOT god. He's just a man who makes pretty pictures.

indeed
but hes pretty much saying hes not worthy of his god liek stature
wich i think is a misinturpratation.
hes a smart, real person. so he gets pushed to the top of the heap. hes still just as human as all of us.
thats what his work is all about reflection

 He's humble? You mean how he thinks he's gifted with the power to predict the future through his art? Saying he predicted 9/11 and the war on terror? Basically building himself an art gallery and calling it a chapel? Totally humble.

You, my good sir, are the one who has no idea what art is. I never said what Alex Grey does is not art. I would never claim that.

He is an artist and he does have talent but he is using that talent commercially. People like it. It sells.

Hell, I find a lot of it very impressive myself.
I never said he wasn't "good" I said he wasn't "God". Quite a difference there.

He IS however a commercial artist, whether or not you or he wants to admit this, and he is overrated.

And amusement abounds on my end as well, at the very least at your poor grammar and spelling, despite the fact that the Shroomery has a "Check Spelling" button.

He implied he predicted 9/11. Which is almost the same thing, especially because he specifically pointed out that detail of his work .

I never said it was evil either. I said it is commercial art and it's overrated. Hell, I mean I'd love to sell art, I've sold a few pieces but nothing to live off of. And I'm sure it fulfills him. He's having a great time. He can do drugs, do art and have tons of adoring fans swooning over him.

And I can read phonetically, it's just that not being able to spell or use proper grammar makes you look less credible and intelligent, especially when you're trying to have an intellectual debate with someone.

And yes, you're a more senior member than I am. And yes, there's a good chance that you're older than I am. That, however, does not make your opinion any more valid than mine.

Again, you misread me and missed the point.  :awesome:

he posinte it out as an example of how people have taken his work and used it to reflect on real life. he in no way inplied it.
the fact that you discredit him due to his success just makes you seem bittter.
i too am an artist. i dont give 2 shits who sells what to who.

my opinions mean nothing. just like everyone elses.
im mearly stating facts.

1- spelling correctly is for people who cant communicate properly.
2- alex grey is a humble guy who generaly is in it for the sacred aspect of art
3- you have made no point

you are jsut trying to make yourself seem liek you have somthign to say by going against the grain.

so far you have no real point. in any post.

what he makes money

he sells shirts

he sells dvd/s

what is your point

hes dont alot better with his life than you

and that, is my opinion

I love how in the art world success=sellout. So he's actually trying to make money, what's the big fucking deal? I don't think he's the best painter ever but he definitely is one of the best interpreters of the psychedelic experience I've ever seen.
