TiT setup, incubation temps q?

i put together my TiT system yesterday. I've got 2-18 gallon plastic tubs, one in the other with my aquarium heater in the bottom one with probably around 3 or so gallons of water in with it. My aquarium heater is only 25 watts though, and i had it set on 86, and inside my chamber, it leveled off at around 74. I just opened it up, and turned up the aquarium heater to its highest setting, which is 89. I figure this will have it sitting at around 76-78 somewhere... are these good incubation temps., or am i going to need to find some way to get the temp up even more in there? I've got a seedling heat mat with temp control and the tropicaire humidifier/FAE machine, i was planning on setting those up in my FC, but would it be a good idea to rig up a better incubation chamber with the heat mat? or will i be fine with the temps i'm at now?

its not the amount of water by gallons/liters you have, its the depth of the water. Try less water maybe?
And if you have no more options, 76-78 myc will still grow just fine.
edit: i usually try to get atleast 3 inchs of water in my TiT before i put the second tub in. If your tubs are to big you may wanna scale down, seeing that tubs are cheaper then heaters.

Unless you keep temps in your house below 68F, there is no reason to use and incubator.
IME, and IMO, colonizing at room temps decreases contamination rates and produces more potent mushrooms. Actually, I have not had any contaminations since I began colonizing at room temperatures.

sounds like i maybe have too much water also, i've got probably 6 inches of water in there....these are the only tubs i've got to work with at the moment. might be able to acquire a few more, but i'd like to make this work if possible...i plan on having a decent amount of jars in there, as i will be doing oysters and shiitakes at the same time. i'll try taking a little water out to get the temps up a little more, any more suggestions?

Incubate at a temperature of 75-78F..esp with grains because MYCELIUM generates at least a 3-5F temperature increase when incubating....it needs gas exchange remember that so synthetic filter disks or 4 holes punched in the lid with micro pore tape over for colonization.....81+ increases thermopilcs which are contamination/bacteria AND slow down growth....Paul stamets in the mushroom cultivator which made 3 new editions because of false info still repeatedly says 85-86F for cubes which is based on a flawed agar study where heat isn't generated....Also it will slow growth down in the low 70's too.
So 75-78F room temperature is optimal...throw away your incubator...its not necessary unless your house is really really cold

If you have 6 inchs in an 18 gallon tub then thats your problem right there. Reduce it by half and your heater will be overkill at the highest setting. The idea is you want enough water for the two tubs to come in contact. If you have a large amount tryin to overflow when you set your second tub inside then you got to much. I assume 3 inchs is the right amount for your tubs only because its the right amount for mine. But ya, keep that in mind. You want just enough for them to contact with just a little bit extra cause of evaporation. (which will happen)

right now i have about 4 inches of water in there, which is just below overflowing when i pull them all the way together, and after setting my heater at the highest setting, i have been sitting at 78 since about and hour after my last post, so i think i'm gonna be good where i'm at, no?

bah, since i put all the jars in, the temp in the chamber dropped to about 73 and has been holding around there...would it be suggested to try to incorporate my heat mat, or will this be enough?

Or you could just leave the damn jars alone. Quit asking this heating question. Anywhere from 70-80 degrees is fine. Don't go above 81. Again, leave them alone.

Heaters are discouraged by veteran growers almost without exception.
Your myc will die at 106, so flirting with temps anywhere near there is not a good a idea.
Room temp is fine for the entire cycle, there is no need for heaters of any kind.
If you birth every week, you will harvest every week, regardless of what temp your jars are at.
Nearly every experienced cultivator I know of does not use a heater of any kind.
