HPPD is not bullshit. But have you been diagnosed with it or just assume you do based on reading about it?

Quote:

APPENDIX A: DSM IV ENTRY FOR HPPD
Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder
Diagnostic Code: 292.89

The essential feature of Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder (Flashbacks) is the transient recurrence of disturbances in perception that are reminiscent of those experienced during one or more earlier Hallucinogen Intoxications. The person must have had no recent Hallucinogen Intoxication and must show no current drug toxicity (Criterion A). This re-experiencing of perceptual symptoms causes clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning (Criterion B). The symptoms are not due to a general medical condition (e.g., anatomical lesions and infections of the brain or visual epilepsies) and are not better accounted for by another mental disorder (e.g., delirium, dementia, or Schizophrenia) or by hypnopompic hallucinations (Criterion C). The perceptual disturbances may include geometric forms, peripheral field images, flashes of color, intensified colors, trailing images (images left suspended in the path of a moving object as seen in stroboscopic photography), perceptions of entire objects, afterimages (a same-colored or complementary-colored "shadow" of an object remaining after the removal of the object), halos around objects, macropsia, and micropsia. The abnormal perceptions that are associated with Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder occur episodically and may be self-induced (e.g., by thinking about them) or triggered by entry into a dark environment, various drugs, anxiety or fatigue or other stressors. The episodes may abate after several months, but many persons report persisting episodes for 5 years or longer. Reality testing remains intact (i.e., the person realizes that the perception is a drug effect and does not represent external reality). In contrast, if the person has a delusional interpretation concerning the etiology of the perceptual disturbance, the appropriate diagnosis would be Psychotic Disorder Not Otherwise Specified.

Diagnostic criteria for Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder

1. The re-experiencing, following cessation of use of a hallucinogen, of one or more of the perceptual symptoms that were experienced while intoxicated with the hallucinogen (e.g., geometric hallucinations, false perceptions of movement in the peripheral visual fields, flashes of colors, intensified colors, trails of images of moving objects, positive afterimages, halos around objects, macropsia, and micropsia.
2. The symptoms in Criterion A cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.
3. The symptoms are not due to a general medical condition (e.g., anatomical lesions and infections of the brain, visual epilepsies) and are not better accounted for another mental disorder (e.g., delirium, dementia, Schizophrenia) or hypnopompic hallucinations.

The bolded part is the diagnostic criteria for HPPD as published in the DSM IV.

tripping can make you see a lot of new things about who you are that you weren't 100% aware of before

for me as well it's how I over-analyze my life, which leads to anxiety and depression..as well.

mushrooms are a powerful tool, and I think I underestimated their power. it forces one thing though, and that's growth and a better understanding of who I am inside.

I havn't technically been diagnosed yet but definitely meet 1 and 3 of those criteria.

Almost everything I look at dances and gets big small fat skinny etc.

EDIT: However it seems most prevalent when I look at a in this room, which also happens to be the very first visual I saw.

I've also read though that the more you think about it the worse it gets so lately i've been trying to just not think about it all and it seems to help... except when looking at this particular chair, it moves as much as it did when full on tripping.

And then you would try to lead us all to a glorious psychedelic future, where we all trip all the time, with you as our lizard king from space.

Haha, I can't imagine tripping all the time. Wears out the soul, as Stone Temple Pilots once said.

Are you sure HPPD is a joke? Im pretty damn sure I've never seen a chair dance before I took psychedelics.

i never said it was a joke. im sure there are a few people that would be categorized as having hppd.

but think of it as like ADD; there are seriously some kids who have it, and then there are the quacks who will diagnose anyone who fidgets as having it, and will pump them full of ritalin.

if you seriously think you might have this condition, you might want to stop doing drugs (including weed) for a few weeks/ months, and probably even longer with shrooms/ 'cid, etc. wait a while, see if the condition persists. if it does, see if it is subtle and doesnt affect your day to day life. if this is the case, pretty much join the club. i still have subtle effects most of the time, but they never get in the way of driving or anything, and im pretty sure i remember having things like that as a kid, just that i didnt notice them very much until after i started paying attention to them (i.e., after psychedelics).

if you seriously have a problem, and it affects your life, you might want to consider swearing them off altogether, and seeing a doctor about it.

there is also the possibility that the chair was actually dancing and you just never noticed until then. im pretty sure just about everything is alive and has the ability to move, but im in no position to prove it:grin:

To this day it still surprises me how many people still believe this myth. Sometimes I just can't hold back the urge to roll my eyes and tell them how retarded of a concept this truly is.

Very creepy, because I was just going to post a thread on this:

This has happened to me, ever since I did about 1.5g's of mushrooms a few days ago. Ever since my trip, I've been getting constant visuals. They're minimal, and usually only matter when I'm reading or writing text. The letters move like the "tokyo effect" I get when I'm on mushrooms. It's not so bad, that I can't read or write(obviously). But the letters still move.....and I'm worried.

LSD has permanently altered the way I perceive existence. There is now more space between everything, all is not so concrete anymore.

So I guess you could say I'm on a permanent trip.

say what you guys want to, but ive seen it last for a week. my buddy to two hits mic'ed at 190 ug and tripped for two weeks. cut off all his hair, pooped on the floor right in front of us, ran into a church and confessed, took his bmw onto the freeway, parked it and tried walking a 3 hour car ride home, picked up by the police, taken to hospital, escaped hospital, taken home to parents house, got naked in middle of winter and his sisters had to catch him. ended up in a psych ward for two weeks and came out of the trip not remembering anything. we all at the same doses and had a blast but something mentally or physically triggered something in him. he now owns a bird shop. btw, jerry bear garcia touched his mothers stomach when he was in the womb!
