The short answer to your first question is yes, but it involves A LOT more than inoculating a substrate with two different strains. It involves a lot of agar work, trial and error and luck. If you want to find more info on the subject, search the advanced forum. I know Workman (Sporeworks) has posted a couple of how-to posts.

FooMan, why do you say that it would be so difficult? If you mixed the spores from two caps together in a solution, mixed well, and sucked them into a syringe, it seems like there should be a 50% chance of the strains crossing.
Here is a shroomery document on mushroom reproduction:
http://www.shroomery.org/5134/How-Do-Mushrooms-Reproduce
The gist of it is that the individual spores send out threads, and when two threads from different spores meet, they try to reproduce. It states that spores are not all compatible with each other, but I don't see anything in that document that indicates that spores from different caps are at any kind of reproductive disadvantage relative to spores from the same cap. Which leads me to believe that crossing strains really is as simple as mixing the spores from two caps.
If you have actual evidence to the contrary, I'd like to hear it, as I plan to begin crossing a few of the strains I've been working with later this year.

If it were that simple, there would be a new strain coming out every week. That link relates to spores of a single strain mating, not crossing strains. That is the "not all spores are compatible" part. I'm not digging up the evidence for you. I've already provided enough information for you to find the information yourself in the advanced forums. Why did I say that it would be difficult? Because it is.

Oh well, I looked it up real quick. Here is the breakdown for you:

Good luck with your method though

From what I read about how Penis Envy 6 was created, FooMan is spittin the truth. It involves agar work from what I remember. Look it up, or ask RR.
Edit- FooMan, thats one thread I was remembering... I'm glad you could post it as a reference.

Ok, that explanation is over my head, but I'll accept it. Thanks for saving me the time.
