I figured out Interstellar Travel

Instead of the archaic idea of shooting unmanned probes to far off reaches of the galaxy or sending small teams of humans in suspended animation in journeys that would take thousands of years with almost no chance of success, I hit upon the solution to feeding the astronauts and being relatively safe from space debris, radiation, propulsion and all of the other problems.
Let's take the whole solar system with us. You heard right! The entire shebang. In this way there is no big hurry as we can go about our normal business as we travel to another star system; only resorting to fission rockets when we get fairly close to our destination.
Of course, we must pick our destination very carefully as it will be quite difficult to steer the solar system once we are up to speed - and naturally we must start decelerating once we are about halfway there.
Source of propulsion? Why the sun itself! 99.99999999999% of the sun's energy is 'wasted' as radiation into space. We shall merely focus and redirect this energy in the opposite direction (well not quite opposite as galactic gravity and our current orbit around the galactic center must be calculated in). Yes, the astro-navigation will be quite tricky, but we will have plenty of time to learn as we go.
And the acceleration will be slow enough that the sun will not pull away from the planets and leave us behind. No, we will pack up the whole family for long vacation trip. Who's with me?

Lol, this is clearly a use of the word "merely" that I'm not familiar with...

And you are going to be the one that is going to put thrusters on the sun??
Thats what I thought, good luck though.
Hypothetically speaking. If you could travel through space. What would be the point? Is there any place in space that is worth visiting? Up to this day we don't even know what space looks like. It's a little bit like the time when people thought the earth was flat. Right now no-one knows what kind of shape the universe has. Does it "end" somewhere? Or does it continue infinitely? And if it does, how can something never end anywhere? I've been thinking, that perhaps its the same as with our planet. If you get in a airplane and start flying you will come back to the point where you started. So maybe, if you get in a spaceship, start flying you will eventually reach your starting point...?

The sun IS the thruster, it is just that currently it is in equilibrium as it thrusts equally in all directions. Break the equilibrium and you have directional thrust - simple!

The star is in a constint fight with gravity I think if you did some thing like that it would lose structure and collapse.
Very creative thought though!

I think given enough time and resources mankind could develop/evolve to do such things. Not very likely, but I think possible.

This is a very long-term project and progress would be slow. The very first deflectors would be tiny and have minimal effect so the changes could be studied in-depth before larger and more effective deflectors are built.
This idea is useful not merely for space exploration, but as a way to find a new sun to heat the earth when old sol nears the end of its life cycle. Then we could either position the earth for a new orbit or do a mass evacuation to another type 'M' planet.

It may be more time efficient to broadcast for aliens to come pick us up and take us somewhere. Developing new technology is expensive and requires effort. Bumming rides is cheaper.

If we can manage to flag down aliens somehow we could convince them of our inability to survive and draw them into assuming responsibility for us....then we're set.

This idea is as plausible as my dream of moving Antarctica into the pacific ocean, carving a corridor through the Himalayas to allow moist winds to go to Africa, carving a corridor through the Rockies and the Andes, and having giant seawater canals going to the centre of Australia, the Gobi and the Sahara desert
No wait, it's not as plausible. You try to move the sun with any great acceleration, it'll break up. Even using a generational starship would be faster than this method.

The thing with new technology is that it is very difficult to imagine what future technological developments are going to be like. So who knows, maybe some scientist will find a way to travel to the start within the next couple of years.

How can it be infinite? That would mean you can get in your spaceship and keep flying and flying without ever reaching an end. Do you think there are still stars if you go far enough or everything just turns into one vast blackness?? I've been thinking about this quite a bit but can never think of a good answer.

Yes. And as it got smaller time sbd everything else would speed up like a tightning sprial. Which could èasly lead to the belief that space is expanding and the expansion is accelerating
Just my little theory though

Old idea. Someone already thought of this, only on a smaller scale.
-------------------- Republican Values: 1) You can't get married to your spouse who is the same sex as you. 2) You can't have an abortion no matter how much you don't want a child. 3) You can't have a certain plant in your possession or you'll get locked up with a rapist and a murderer. 4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.

Well, thus far no 'space travelling mind' has ever brought back any previously unknown knowledge that was later confirmed.
This speaks of fantasy only. Too many video games, comic books and sci-fi movies is all.
