Don't judge an organization by its members nor history

Why not?
Are the members not the representatives and at least the partial end product of an organization? If they do not embody the ideals and charter of an organization, then who does? I am not talking about the occasional rotten apple, but about trends and the collective historical acts of its members.
If that sounds too much like just another -ism, what about sanctioned acts by the heads of such organizations?
Can we whitewash The Inquisition just because it happened long ago? Could one in good conscious voluntarily join such an organization that killed tens of thousands?
Or what of the slaughter of some 120 Arkansas pioneers in 1857 sanctioned by Mormon leader, Brigham Young himself? Doesn't joining such a church say that you find such an atrocity acceptable?
Have you ever left an organization because of actions that you deem repugnant or unethical? Where do you draw the line between the ideals of an organization and the behavior(s) of its members?

I'm not going to do your homework for you but "Don't Judge an organization by its members nor history" is just about one of the stupidest things ever. If not that, then how would you judge it? Who gives a shit what they say they stand for, it matters what they do.

I left the Christian church because, frankly, the daily practice of self-deceit and self-hate ran contrary to my ethics.

I agree with you, but the opposite has been proposed many times here as a counter argument so I was bringing the issue to the forefront.

Roman Catholicism and Mormonism are satanic cults which shows its true colors by atrocities.

Well, I think it's reasonable to say "don't judge an organization by a few of it's members" if there are many other members who do not exemplify the quality being criticised. It's a total logical fallacy to say "john is a racist son of a bitch, therefore the hockey team john plays for advocates racism."

I hope you don't think I'm the one generalizing. Au contraire my friend, I'm pointing out the possiblility of logical error in judging an organization by it's membership when the sample group is too small.
