If I buy a pressure cooker without a guage, is it possible to retrofit one on?

depends on the pc: age, manufacturer, etc. all PC's should have a pressure release or jiggler its just a matter of is it still on there, and if not you need to know if that manufacturer still makes replacement pieces for that model

With the time and money you'll be spending to add a gauge, you might as well buy a PC with a gauge. I understand being frugal, but if you intend to be in this hobby for a decent amount of time, you should definitely look into buying an All American. Sure, it costs more up front, but you will never have to buy another PC again and it pays for itself the first few times you use it.

most PC's without a gauge will tell you the psi they will maintain in the instructions.. most will maintain 15 psi which is perfect. retrofitting your own creates hazards and you compromise the safety of your PC.

mine doesn't have a gauge, instead it has a weight that you put on top of the lid that wobbles when it hits 15 psi.

i would strongly suggest against doing any serious mods to a PC, best case is you save a few bucks, worst case is it blows up in your face, its just not worth it
your PC probably maxes out at 10 or 15 psi, try to hunt down the instructions for it and that should tell you
