my stupid cat stepped on my casing

so, I know all you veterans out there must get rather annoyed with all of us noobs asking you dumb questions but my dumb ass cat stepped on my casing... it's in a rubbermaid container with saran wrap over the top. aparently the cat thought he could walk on the saran rap. The substrate layer is about an inch thick, 3/4 for the casing layer and a half inch of wet verm in the bottom. I used the 50/50 tek with BRF jars. The indents (4 of them) are each about 1/2 to 1/4 inches deep. My casing was doing rather well, very rhizomorphic. anyway, do you think I'm screwed? I'll try for a pic.

Shitty paws on your substrate obviously isn't a good thing, but if there is already good mycelial growth you should be OK. Either way, what can you do about it now?

thanks so much fooman, I tried to add a pic but I'm new to this and it didnt work, I posted that without realizing you responded. fortunately, it his paws didn't touch the substrate, just the plastic wrap, which I've replaced so hopefully all is good, thanks for the reassurance. I mostly just wanted to know of that kind of pressure would kill the mycelium.

dont freak out too much, just wait and see what happens, you'll probably be fine, especially if the myc already had good growth

what people often forget is that mycelium actually grows in places other than our closets, if it was as fragile as everyone seems to think it would not have survived millions of years of evolution

the funniest thing, when I look this morning, there was no knotting but when I looked after the cat stepped on it, I saw a bunch of tiny little round spots like the top of a sewing pin, I'm psyched, you guys are awesome. this is my first grow ever so I have some pre-fruiting jitters I guess. Rest assured, I moved the fruiting chamber to where the cat cant get it. Go figure to, I made a silly move and cased two different strains together, PR's and PESA's, the PR's are the ones with the knotts and I heard they are more difficult.

well the myc makes shrooms when it thinks its dying, so maybe your cat triggered your flush!

I'm kinda thinking that because the part thats knotting the most is next to one of the pawprints. Thanks for making me chill the hell out man, I needed that... it's tough growin these things the first time... it's damn near impossible to not be nervous all the time if it wasnt for this site I'd be lost

What I wanna know is why does your cat have access to the area in which your shrooms are growing? That sounds like an easy way to catch contams.

You better keep that cat away from the keepers brew or you'll have mushrooms growing out of his toilet. ROFL

yea, the only place where I can put it is in my closet... which unfortunately doesnt have a door... I'll tell you what... that little bastard can jump pretty martha fockin high... higher than most I've seen... at first I just had saran wrap over the FC but now I used the lid and cut a square out for a window n put saran wrap on that. I'm gonna go to home depot and get some epoxy and plexiglass though... (obviously FC is opaque)

First off you could bounce a cake of a wall and it would still grow fine, maybe a little pissed at ya tho. Your big problem will be your 1 inch substrate layer, that is very small. You will get some tiny mushrooms out of this. Next time try and make it 3-5 inches.

Yeah you were right, they did turn out tiny... only got 22 wet grams from the first flush... I'm just happy it worked my first time... I just had to toss three cakes cause they smelled sour when I crumbled to case...
