Bicilius/wet rot problems
    #7913981 - 01/22/08 09:51 AM (16 years, 10 days ago)

HI ve been growing shrooms for the past six months on brf cakes. I ve done great for the first couple of months I was somewhat succsesfull as I grew about 20 to 30 cakes. But a couple of months ago I started having
problems with bacteria, probably bacilius, infecting my cakes. Soon I could not get a single cake succsesfully sterilazed. So I switched to whole grain technique to get rid of the problem. I used corn and rye wich I soked for 24 hours, thend simmered for 45 min and then pressure coocked for 2 hours (previously I sterilized with steam for at least 3 hours). But I still couldnt get rid of the rot, even jars that were not inoculated were rotting. What else can I do? Could it be that I left the jars too close to the radiator where it was too hot? would leaving the jars in a bit cooler place help? Please help me
Thanks

You're supposed to colonize at normal room temperature, not near a radiator, and at any event, keep them below 81F. It sounds like your filter material is not sufficient, or is getting damp.
