Child Tax Credit Question?

Hi. I had a baby this year and my marital status is single. My girlfriend and I decided I will claim our daughter because I made more. Does the amount I made matter? If so how do they figure the difference with a child? If not, what is a kid worth now?

It's not the amount you made, it's the amount you OWE. The Child Tax Credit is applied to your tax liability, so if you don't owe anything, you don't get it. Check out the IRS website for details. I'm not going to link to it, but the address is www irs gov.

He cannot claim a qualifying child for EIC unless his child lives with him.
To the OP: I highly recommend that you use an online tax software program to file this year. TurboTax is excellent, and you may be able to use it for free through the IRS's "Free File" program.
