incubation solution

i've read many posts about people who are having trouble incubating their jars and keeping the temperature at a good level for mycelium to develop, and i thought i would share my experiences so far on my first grow. i had a space heater blowing on my jars, but it seemed to get a few of them too hot, and others towards the back were ice cold. so i switched to using a heated blanket. i put the jars under the blanket and wrap it around them in a chair, and ever since i did this the mycelium have been thriving. this method does not jack up my electric bill 100$ a month like my space heater does, and the jars get even heat. just thought i'd share, it was a good solution for me, and hopefully it will help others out. -bmiles

Heated blankets are dangerous to leave on all the time. If you need extra heat, you might try an aquarium heater in some water.

it hasn't been dangerous for me, the blanket automatically shuts down for awhile after it reaches the peak temp, so i think it should be fine.

it is chilly here, if i didn't use heat i would be waiting for a long time for my jars to colonize i believe.

I can remember my first grow. So anxious to start couldn't wait to build an incubator so I sat my jars atop of my stereo amplifier (turned on of course). Without turning the volume up, I kept a conctant 85 degrees

Depends on how well insulated your home is and of course what part of the country you live. Furthermore what you are incubating. Lots of different things work for different folks situations it seems. My woodlover's are stoked at 71 for the time being.
