Can Anyone ID Whatevers On This PF Cake Please? -PICS
    #7910323 - 01/21/08 04:21 PM (16 years, 11 days ago)

This is my second attempt at growin mushrooms.

my first attempt was succesful, although the fruits were a bit small in diameter.

I started a second batch in 1/2 pint jars, which is now about 3days into the FC. No holes in the terr, has RR does his grows.

I spray the sides of the terr many times of the day, and also lightly mist the tops of the cakes (where dry verm is cased), then fanning using the top of the terr. for about 3 mins every time. I do this close to 4 times a day.

I dont know if this is true, but I started a newer batch this time, using full pint jars, dont know if this will produce bigger fruits staight off the cake.

I have been reading alot of all ya's methods, and think I will try to case a few of the pints once they're at 100%...

anyhoo, my FC stays at 73-75 degrees, and the RH is steady at 97%,
after 3 days in the FC, the cakes look good, I have one solid pin on one of the cakes, its the size of a matchstick head, but hopefully it grows nicely  however one of the other cakes has had some crazy growth on it, nothing I've ever seen, its either a mold of some type, or just a crazy amount of hyphal knots.

Maybe you could let me know what you guys think. Its appreciated!

Thanks!!

That's what I thought too. Looks like perlite. If those are cubensis and not some other species of mushroom beginning to grow, they're in bad shape

no, the cake never fell onto perlite, but your right, it looks like perlite in the pics

the cake was cold dunked for 24 hrs, its PR strain.
been in the FC for 3 days or so.

I analyzed the first pic and realized some of the smaller "bumps", are indeed knots, I just cant get over the cluster of them.

I've got these under a 175w MH, I know I know, but its the only light I had availible with the best blue spec possible.
It also adds some heat, which is cool, its dead winter here.

those are the best pics I could get,
maybe an assurance its not perlite, and to give the first pic
another look, would be cool of you guys.

:mushroom2:

I never guess. It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Mistakes are a part of being human. Appreciate your mistakes for what they are: precious life lessons that can only be learned the hard way. Unless it's a fatal mistake, which, at least, others can learn from.

What I can see is exposed uncolonized cake. Always be careful to ensure any nutritive media is not exposed---it has an incredible chance of becoming contaminated. When I did cakes, if a part was having a difficult time colonizing----in the cleanest way possible---I dropped it into a small clean(sterile) cereal bowl and placed it into a large ziplock freezer bag that I had microwaved for 30sec. It opened up the cake to colonize the sides that were not colonizing.
