Substrare Mixture Calcs?
    #7910235 - 01/21/08 04:05 PM (16 years, 11 days ago)

In the Lets grow mushrooms dvd it said to make 5 1/2 pint cakes use:

2 cups vermiculite
1 cup water
1 cup brown rice

If Im making 30 1/2 cakes using the above, multiply by 6 (which would equal 30)

12 cups Vermiculite
6 cups brown rice flour
6 cups Water

Right?

But when I use this calculator

http://users.lycaeum.org/~mushrooms/tek/SCGTv0.6.html

It says:

20 verm
7 1/2 brf
7 1/2 water

Im just confused, could it possibly be talking about pint jars and not 1/2 or is this calculator just completely wrong? or am I?

There are several variations that work equally well.

Typically, there will be twice as much verm as BRF in your cake and approximately equal amounts of BRF and water. The calculator seems to call for nearly 3 times as much verm as BRF, which I am sure is fine.

Your verm to BRF ration should not exceed 3 to 1, but 2 to 1 seems preferred.

2 parts verm
1 part BRF
1 part water
