markets are just freefalling, when the markets open tomorrow, people are going to get hit hard
    #7909392 - 01/21/08 12:16 PM (16 years, 11 days ago)

ive been watching the european and asian markets today ML king day, a holiday for us, and its bad. losses across the board that havent been felt since the days after sept 11th.

somthing tells me that when the american markets open tomorrow, people are going to get hit, and hit hard.

"in times of widespread chaos and confusion, it has been the duty of more advanced human beings - artists, scientists, clowns, and philosophers - to create order. In such times as ours however, when there is too much order, too much m management, too much programming and control, it becomes the duty of superior men and women and women to fling their favorite monkey wrenches into the machinery. To relieve the repression of the human spirit, they must sow doubt and disruption"

Just finished reading Jim Rogers "A Bull In China"  It was an easy read and great perspective on investing in China.  I agree that China will be the next super power.  They save, are hard working, eager to learn, and will be the center of future growth.  China is just getting started although their market and economy has been on a tear, in the long run it could be just like if you invested in America in the early 1900's.  Hopeful any market declines provide some great buying opportunities.

It wasn't so bad. The main reason Europe fell so much yesterday was because, when Wall Street was closed for a day, they were pricing in a worst case scenario for US markets falling. Since they didn't fall quite so much the FTSE is up 3% today.

Nothing to worry over IMO, just relax and ride out all the emotional turmoil. It will all right itself in due time.

i don't know. A 75basis point emergancy rate cut with a schedualled meeting on the 29th seems like it might be a rough year or at least 6 months.

6 months or a year is a short time. Look at things in the long run and you can relax.

Exactly! The market will inevitably rebound, and those with the common sense and patience to see it through will profit BIG TIME by investing now. The key is not to invest money you actually need--stock investing is for 10 years in the future. The short-termers may occasionally win big, but they lose a lot more often.

I'm hedging my bets by shorting a few mortgage related companies and going long a few beaten energy companies.

My dad's a broker and I spoke to him today. Most of his investors that are panicking are either foreign or expats.

But he really believes that the US markets dodged a bullet yesterday. If the US markets were open yesterday, it would have been bad.

obviously as a broker he is trained to think long term. As in like retirement funds long term. We're not even talking five years here, we're talking 30.

But what really surprised me is that he gave some credence to the fear that we could be heading towards a situation like Japan in the 1990s.
