http://www.erowid.org/plants/mushrooms/mushrooms_cultivation20.shtml
a friend of mine loaned me the book which exactly matches that text file... PSILOCYBIN PRODUCTION by Adam Gottlieb. The procedures described sound very appealing to me, but between the note from erowid at the top of the page regarding inaccuracies, and the shear lack of text on this elsewhere is discouraging.
the gyst of it is that you produce mycelium in an agar media with potato broth dextrose and yeast. pieces of this mycelium are used to seed larger jars of media consisting of the same ingredients minus the agar. these jars are allowed to develop into full mycelium networks, at which point you can use them to seed solid media like most people talk about on here, or you can strain them off, dry the mycelium to a crumbly substance, and extract the active ingredients with methanol. every 100g of dry mycelium should produce about 2g of dried extract from these methanol washes, which can be divided into about 50 medium sized doses.
i also just read some of this thread (not much detail.. its a fuckin volume of encarta) http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/7680529 which is the closest thing i could find to discussion of this kind of thing. does it have any accuracy that I should bother with?
Is Adam Gottlieb full of absolute shit? I have 4 syringes of cambodia spores on the way right now with the intent of using them like this. should i just yell FUCKIN SHIT and get over that it don't work like this, grow basic agar dishes, and use them to give regular mushroom fruiting a shot?

Are you asking if the potato dextrose LC works? If so yes. If your asking if the extraction thing is billshit I don't know. But the search button will usually have the info desired

ya i'd buy that using potato broth and dextrose will make a viable myc culture. i have a good understanding of the basic liquid culture thing. what i'm concerned about is if there is any validity to the thing about extracting alkaloids from the myc to actually consume. reading a bit more since posting i'm seeing more and more people say doing so is a huge waste of time and chemical resources. how the fuck did that guy (along with i duno how many people with similar theories) publish a book on utter bullshit? did these ppl just flat out never test the concepts they laid claim to?

Yes. Its a huge waste of time. You would have to have like a pound of myc! Lol
Lc's are great and everyone should do them. They turn 1.5 cc's of spores into like 300 and it colinizes faster
Those books are just scams to get your money

One drop from a spore syringe into a quart jar containing 600mm of water and 3 tablespoons of "Light Karo Syrup"(if it contains vanilla it is ok, but needs to be clear)that has been sterilized in a PC for 20 minutes @ 15 psi, will make enough LC to inoculate an infinite number of quart/gallon or pint jars. Meaning that, that initial 'one drop' of spore solution from your syringe is enough to supply the world with LC's for the rest of eternity! If done properly, of course
That is just simply amazing isn't it?
Why do you need a book?
The Shroomery is the only book you need!

I use 1 gram of powdered malt per 500ml. 3 tablespoons is a lot of sugar
