Properly incubating WBS
    #7907251 - 01/20/08 08:43 PM (16 years, 12 days ago)

The last grow (was my first) I used BRF. This time around I'm using WBS in pint jars. I did some reading and there are mixed feelings about using lower temperature compared to higher ones during incubation. My room stays within 70-72 degrees F and I will be knocking up my pint jars with spore syringes.

Like I said, I already have the tubs and fish tank heater so it won't be a further investment on my part.

What is everyone's take on slow and steady to prevent contam's method vs. faster colonization to beat contam's to the punch and should I incubate or set aside in a dark place in my closet?

I used to use a TiT because the room I grew in was about 60. It maintained temps of 80.

Slow and steady doesn't prevent contams. Good sterile procedure does. Myc grows well in the same conditions and temperatures as competitor contaminants. There is no logic in saying that lower temperatures will help prevent contams. 'Nuf said.

i just keep mine in a outdoor storage closet with a bunch of junk and a small space heater and keep it around 85-88 degrees.. some say its too hot but quart jars get solid white in close to 15 days from mycellium water.

Also, upside to incubating slightly warmer, is that when you get to the fruiting stage you can easily create a temp drop to initiate pinning.
