Soup..

My family Christmas tradition was to make a huge pot of vegetable beef soup.

Mom used to make home made soup from scratch all the time. I miss good soup.

My favourite comfort food is a combo of good pinot noir (at least a $30 bottle, usually from Napa Valley), a block of 4 year old white cheddar, and a big ass bag of croissants.

Although eating a whole tub of Haagen Dazs cookie dough ice cream is something that can be quite comforting as well

As much as I love to cook (I am now officially a chef, just got hired at a restaurant in Vancouver), if I am looking for comfort foods I want something that is quick and edible right out of the package.

:hippie:

Peanut butter & banana & honey sandwich on toasted whole wheat bread.
Smushed potatoes with sharp cheddar & sour cream
Grilled cheese sandwich with cream of tomato soup
Oatmeal with maple syrup, cream & walnuts

(Wow! That's a lot of dairy! #1 is the only comfort food I still eat, though I will have oatmeal sans cream.)

Homemade potato soup and cornbread.

Biscuits and sausage gravy.

But my No 1 all time comfort food that I almost never allow myself to eat (not that I eat the others that often anymore) would be bagels with cream cheese and a slice of ham.  Put together and nuked for about 15 seconds.  Just long enough to get the cream cheese to start melting.  :drooling:

Chili is always good, homemade soups are excellent.  But there are entirely not enough receipes in here!

A quick, comforting sloppy chicken sammy:
  • BBQ your quicken (or cook it however you like)
  • De-bone and chop it up to 1/2 - 1 cm chunks.
  • Get the skillet hot, with some oil or butter.
  • Add some minced garlic, red chili flakes, and diced onion - let that go for a minute or two.
  • The pan should be nice and hot now, and your garlic and onion should be cooked, but not burnt.
  • Add in your chopped chicken and toss around with a few squirts of your favorite BBQ sauce.
  • Serve on top your favorite bun.
  • Fucking eat that tasty tower already! :tongue2:

Grilled Provolone on buttered Pumpernickel with Genoa Salami, shredded lettuce, green olives with pimento, and pickled Hen of the Woods.

Without the olives and mushrooms:

Quite simply: Food that makes you feel comfortable.

Often easily prepared food that has been served to you at home during your childhood and brings back memories of being taken care of at home. It can be any food that you may eat during stressful times which in turn make you feel content and comfortable. Typically referenced comfort foods are usually served warm and are relatively high in caloric content.

That definition kind of sucks. It would be more accurate to say that comfort food is food that you find comforting than to say that it makes you feel comfortable.

I agree with the ranch man.

According to Wikipedia's definition, you can make any food comfort food just be sprinkling codeine pills on it.

More or less. Served on a pita. The meat is traditionally processed lamb cooked on a rotissery and on top is a cucumber sauce.

Cheese is good though. And the cornbread has to be broken up and in the soup. I like bacon and green onions on top as well.

All this talk. I'm gonna have to whip some up soon.

Mmm cornbread! I made some last night, if there's any leftover I might have to make some potato-onion-bacon-cheese soup to go with it.
