One World Government -- the official vote!
    #7907060 - 01/20/08 07:38 PM (16 years, 12 days ago)

Quote:

People of the World, we are on the brink of an exciting new era in the history of mankind. An era that will put an end to all wars and all the suffering that comes with it. An era where all of mankind can help to increase the wel;-being of all of mankind, without national borders and political regimes to destroy mankind's greatest dream - to live together as one in perfect harmony. Please vote YES on One World Government!

Quote:

People of the World, we are on the brink of the greatest catastrophe that ever struck mankind. Know the saying that "power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely"? For the first time in history a situation of absolute power will be created, unchecked by opposing regimes. The One World Government speaks of freedom but it will enslave mankind. The powers that be will rule all. Mankind will be plunged in an abyss of totalitarian control. Please vote NO on One World Government!

.
Should we unite the Nations of the World into One World Government?
You may choose only one

Perhaps in some different epoch it would be appropriate.

At some point when the people of the world are more culturally homogenized, then I think it would be OK. Still, it should be a loose confederation so individuals have more say in their own life.

The thing is current government systems are readily corrupted, and in fact have been corrupted. If you start a world government in the same way, even if it is pristine, it would be corrupted in no time as special interest groups gain access and pull each other in.

Its the next step in human existance.
It would lead to peace. And further advance is as a species. We would advance so fast if we all worked together
Any other inteligence existance won't acknowledge. Us intill we atlest have control of our own planet. If there out there. There would be far fewer wars.
But that only goes with an uncorrupt system

this is the kind of thinking that will
make the one world government happen,
and we will be worse off than we ever were.

Diverse peoples cannot be governed with a homogeneous law. History of empires makes this quite clear. Any attempt will fail, thought not after many, many people die.

what about the U.S.?

Just because the world came under one government does not mean that it would become corrupt. The U.S. has a very low level of corruption. I am sure there are a lot of people who will disagree with that, but the U.S. is not corrupt. Ask someone from China, or Russia what they think of the U.S. government system. Just because you don't like what is going on with the country does not mean it is corrupt.

Unfortunately, we are just not ready for that step. The state of worldly affairs would have to be just right for a NWO to actually work in the favor of the populace.

Since before then, to the end of September, 2007, the United States has dedicated approximately $315 billion dollars to the cause.

Freedom <-> Tyranny. We are more free when the center of power is closer to the individual level. One world government is the anti-thesis to liberty and individual sovereignty.

Go show her my thread on page one in P&S entitled "Red Pandas". :mushroom2:

Red Pandas

A world government would interfere with an individual's plan to do so, even though, responsibly explored, it would serve to benefit the red panda species, ensuring their survival, and beginning a friendship between two species that could last a millenia. Individuals need to have sovereignty so they can be empowered to produce the greatest, positive change. :craven:

One world government doesnt mean there is going to be one stranger ruling the planet. It could be any type of government... from one with massive separation of powers and checks/balances to the one feared by most of the posters here.

Really...

Yes, the U.S. empire will one day fall like all other before it, & tens of millions have been killed in its ascension & maintenance.

Not corrupt? I beg to differ. Just because we give our corruption (to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars annually) official & noble titles like the "War on Drugs" & the "War on Terror" does not mean it is not corruption; nor is it in any way morally superior to a Third-world despot who pockets money that is supposed to be used as humanitarian resources.

Handing tens of millions of U.S. taxpayer dollars to large corporations to poison the ecosystems & people in rural Colombia, while millions in the U.S. lack adequate healthcare; that's corruption.

Handing U.S. taxpayer dollars to "defense" contractors to profit from the conquest of an oil-rich foreign nation instead of spending it (if you're going to take it in the first place) to pay off the debt your foolishness is increasing, as well as develop sustainable energy sources; that is also corruption, which the next generations are going to pay dearly for... not to mention the millions in Iraq & tens of thousands from the U.S. who have already suffered immensely from.

These are two example of greed & corruption that every Third-world despot can only dream of pulling off successfully.

Just because the government is not doing what YOU want does not mean that it is corrupt!

that's part of the problem with one world government. more people under one rule, more people against it. that's why smaller government works better... more power to the people.

and to entheogenicpeace: just because china and russia are even more corrupt, doesn't mean we aren't. just because hitler killed more people than manson, doesn't mean manson isn't a bad person.

I did not say that you were the only one that opposes war and war profiteering! You were saying that our government is corrupt because of certain things that they have done, like go to war. Well I am sorry that you don't agree with that but the decision was in the hand of our ELECTED officials. Where the hell is the corruption in that?

Well that is the problem with giving the power to the people, the people are stupid.

I know that China, and Russia having more corruption than the U.S. does not mean that the U.S. is not. What it means is ask someone who has lived under a corrupt government and then ask them about our government (I have) it will give you a completely different outlook on our government system.

no, but I don't see any reason to. Our representatives tend to do what they say they will. When people voted for Bush they knew what they were getting. That is not how things work in corrupt countries.

Here is a quote from Tom Friedman from the New York Times,
"I took part in a seminar two weeks ago at Nanjing University in China, and I can still hear a young Chinese graduate student pleading for an answer to her question: "How do we get rid of all our corruption?" Do you know what your average Chinese would give to have a capital like Washington today, with its reasonable honest and efficient bureaucracy? Do you know how unusual we are in the world that we don't have to pay off bureaucrats to get the simplest permit issued?"

"benefit the structure"

if they wanted to benefit us, then they would stop killing us.

there are easier ways around things then what is currently happening in this world. there seems to be something wrong with killing mass amounts of people to "benefit the structure". something just doesn't sound right...

you are basing everything you said on conspiracy theories. I don't give a shit about some stupid youtube videos! I have seen zeitgest before, it does not prove anything! I am not going to get into an argument on conspiracy theories.

Look, I don't like the war on terror, the war on drugs, or any other fucked up thing our government does any more than you, but just because WE do not agree with the war on drugs it does not mean the government is corrupt. One of the reasons why people loved Ronald Reagan was because of the war on drugs. There are still people who agree with the war on terror, and the things that you dislike

If you don't think our gov. is corrupt then read a fucking book. You know that for awhile the KKK decided who the Prez and other officials would be? That isn't a conspiracy it's written in the fucking books.

i posted this in my other thread -

Before we rush to war with Iraq again, Americans must know what happened in the last war. In 1991, we bombed Iraq's civilian infrastructure to "accelerate the effect of sanctions" knowing it would shut down their water and sewage systems.[1] The UN reported there would soon be "epidemic and famine" and "time was short" to prevent it. We said that "by making life uncomfortable for the Iraqi people we would encourage them to remove President Saddam Hussein."[2] And we waited for this to happen.

We used epidemic and famine as tools of our foreign policy. We did it to cause suffering -- and death -- to get regime change at low cost. We tried to force the Iraqis to do it. But it was not low cost.

We learned from the New England Journal of Medicine in 1992 what happened: "These results provide strong evidence that the Gulf war and trade sanctions caused a threefold increase in mortality among Iraqi children under five years of age. We estimate that an excess of more that 46,900 children died between January and August 1991."[3]

That report was virtually ignored in this country, so that by 1999 UNICEF had to report on 500,000 excess Iraqi children's deaths.[4]

A World-Trade-Center's worth of Iraqi children continue to die every month. Diarrhea is "the prime killer."[5] Meanwhile we live in a fantasy world of surgical bombing, with few civilian casualties, and the untrue belief that the oil-for-food program could possibly meet Iraq's needs.[6]

But these basic facts are unknown to most Americans. A second Gulf War, done the same way as the first, may just overflow the reservoir of anger and hatred we've created by our policies. No one knows what will happen then. Until we recognize what we've done, we cannot judge what might happen.

read a fucking book.

neither true or false, belief in either is a hindrance. nothing wrong with considering a possibility.

a lot of the information going around the internet is conspiracy, but that doesn't mean it is ALL false.

I agree. There is a lot of fucked up things that our government has done, and is doing right now. I have read a lot on U.S. history. There were times where the government has gone behind the peoples back, but that is small compared to the number of things they honestly do. I think Bush used 9/11 as an excuse to go to war in Iraq (even though it was not really a reason) but if the people are stupid enough to believe it then so be it, that does not make him corrupt, it just makes Americans stupid.

Thats out of context but my point is that just because the govt has most likely done more good things than bad, it doesn't excuse it.

We need an internet based government where every single person is connected and has to spend like 2 hours a day voting on shit. No real like government stations but just existing on the internet.

you find a way to get every single person a computer with internet access.

Then find a way to make people take two hours out of their day to "vote"

Then find a way to make sure that the server isn't overloaded.

Then make damn sure no one can fuck it up by hacking it or shutting the server down.

Why would you rest the entire fate of the country on the internet?

Everyone really wouldn't need a computer just an account on a server. I'm sure we could do it.
I would hope if everyone had the chance to make an actual impact in things they would. And if they didn't, then théy couldn't bitch if things didn't go their way.

What do we do with all the people that can't read? Although it isn't seen as much with children, many adults in the US are illiterate... a lot more than one would expect. What about rural areas where there is no internet and the closest computer is twenty plus miles away? I guess we could start a "no voter left behind" project to get $100 voting computers to these areas... though dialup on a party line is an exercise in futility.

It was on the History Channel + notes from my history class. Wikipedia also talks about it. This summarizes it.

At the peak of the Klan's political power, several highly notable political figures in the U.S. and Canada joined the Klan or flirted with membership. The list includes two Supreme Court justices and, according to evidence which is in some cases contested, possibly two presidents.
