what's the point of marriage again? to declare your love for one another in front of a bunch of people and to get a tax write off or something? it seems like it was just started to control people, especially women.

I too am an ordained minister.

I was ordained by the church of secular humanism ...I think that was it. I was going through an old email folder and found my papers. I had totally forgot.

It was originally created by those who believe in God as a way of declaring their union before Him and to have Him bless their union together. That is why all the hype about gay marriage. No one claims marriage before Judaism, though it spread to every culture afterwards. Since their beliefs say it is wrong to be gay, then their logic is that God wouldn't bless than union anyway so it is really just a direct attack on the church. That is the way I understand all the drama. Personally I think that if it was really just about equal rights then civil unions should be sufficient. But it isn't so I would question the motives as well behind the movement. I have a few gay friends and they are against gay marriage.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't just THAT. It was also used to the governments advantage and to suppress women. Now it's just turned into a money making trend or something... this is why I think it's kind of stupid.
