About to start my first grow, have a few questions.

Hey everyone. I've been wanting to do this for a very long time, so I ordered the spore syringe and received it the other day. I've got my vermiculite and brown rice flour ready to go, and I'm just waiting on a good time to sterilize. Before I set out, I just want to check a few things... I'm planning to keep everything in a rubbermaid container, with no heater or fans. I'll open it a few times a day (to add some new air, and stare longingly at those cakes). Since there is no heater, it will be at room temp. Is that ok? Our house can reach about 61 degrees F at night, but never lower. I've read the FAQ's and know thats a bit low, but is it detrimental the point that a new grower would really care? Also, I couldn't find any mason jars when I went out supply shopping the other day. I could if I really looked, but I ended up buying half pint plastic "reusable snack containers" which claim to be microwave proof. Does anyone know if that sounds like they would stand up to a few hours of boiling to sterilize? Aaaand finally, is there any point to leaving the jars/containers in the pot which they were sterilized in to cool down? It seems like they would cool down much faster out of the pot, maybe even in the fridge. Is there any reason not to go along with something like that?
Well, sorry for the wall of text, but I'm just curious. Any help would be awesome .
edit - that looked a whole lot more like a wall of text when I was writing it than it does now.

The temperature is OK, but expect everything to grow slower than with the preferred temps!
When it comes to plastic jars, you have to give it a try! Fill up jar with the PF mixture and throw it in the pod. Normally they should be able to stand a 100 degrees, but when it comes to PCing a try is worth a thousand answers! (don't even know if you'll use a PC). For the future you should go for stinkin' normal drinking glasses that are wide mouthed. They work just fine. Simply use triple aluminium foil as a lid and you're fine!
Letting the jars cool down inside the pod decreases the chances of contamination. That's the reason why it's done. I never did it and never had any problems with contams (at least since I use a PC, but that's another story). The critical point is the inoculation procedure. Try to work as fast and clean as possible and you contamination rate should stay quiet low!
Putting the hot jars in the fridge would be a pretty stupid idea, since it only leads to rotting food and a waste of energy, because the fridge will try to keep the temps as low as they should. If you do it anyway, I'd be prepared for it make spooky sounds and when it starts saying the word "Zuul", I'd better run off!

It looks like boiling those is a baaad idea. The only drinking cups I have that are the right size all have ridges. The base is an...octagon, so it goes up the cup through the widemouth top. How bad are ridges on cake-cups? It sounds like it would work to me, but do the angles make it rough to grow on? I'd like to get this going tonight...but if this doesn't work, I may have to wait.

dont use those plastic snap on lids, you need a SCREW type lid, such as mason jars. the lids will pop off by steam venting during sterilization and your shit gets fucked.
also, its good to keep things in the pot to cool because when these things cool, they suck in air which obviously contains contams. so its a good idea to let them suck still air.
and dont do the fridge. the fridge is DIRTY. may not seem like it because of the cold temp not letting stuff grow, but theres many spores and what not of contams. and plus if youre waiting 3 weeks for jars to colonize, whats a few hours wait to ya.
