why such a pathetic flush? PICS included
    #7904902 - 01/20/08 08:00 AM (16 years, 12 days ago)

WBS spawned to straw; EQ strain.. cased with 50/50 peat/verm
RH is at a constant 98% with FAE 2-3x a day; 72-74 degrees

Here's a side shot:

and two close ups:
1:

2:

As you can see in closeup #2, it seems that the mushies will only grow a very short height, then become aborts.. or the veil will tear while they are still very small.

Also, in the first pic you can see there's 1 big shroom (which is still pretty small).. I feel like it should have been a more productive flush.

What could be causing this?

your casing looks hydrated enough... what is your misting regimen like? do you mist directly or over? What are you using for humidification? What kind of hygrometer do you have? Did you allow the it to fully colonize before casing?

Use much larger containers for straw. A small tray might work with manure or coir, but straw works best when used in larger quantities.

I use an oregon scientific hygrometer, so I know it's working correctly.. I'll touch the surface and mist whenever I see that it isn't moist enough. And yes, it was fully colonized before I cased.

Is it really just the size of the tray? that'd be a total bummer.

Get an analog hygrometer and properly calibrate it at 100%. Digitial hygromters are crap at very high humidity. I've seen OS hygrometers off by 20%, even though at normal room humidity, they read right on.

And yes, with straw, I'd use laundry baskets, staw logs, or some other container about four or five times that size.

I wash my hands with alcohol before opening the FC, every time. (and not soaking wet, just enough to kill the contams for a quick feel)

Alcohol is not enuff to clean your hands. Your hands have layers of fat and oils on them. Germs get traped in the layers. Alchol has been shown not to work well alone and should only be a part of a normal handwashing habit. Id pull up articles abut I dont feel like looking them up.
