'ganging up' on a poker game/table

so ive never done this, but i have seen it happen.
2 or 3 people will come sit down at a poker table out at the casino, and they will work as a team. often raising and re-raising untill everyone else folds out of the hand. with this strategy, working as a team, they take down quite a few pots and eventually get up and leave, with cash in their pockets.
so what im wondering, is this. is this legal, and do\es anyone else do this>

zippoz "in times of widespread chaos and confusion, it has been the duty of more advanced human beings - artists, scientists, clowns, and philosophers - to create order. In such times as ours however, when there is too much order, too much m management, too much programming and control, it becomes the duty of superior men and women and women to fling their favorite monkey wrenches into the machinery. To relieve the repression of the human spirit, they must sow doubt and disruption" "People do it every day, they talk to themselves ... they see themselves as they'd like to be, they don't have the courage you have, to just run with it."

I dunno anyone who's done that in real life, but I've done that with my sister on online poker. Works nicely especially since we can IM what cards we're holding to each other.

im pretty sure it's illegal, but it would be hard for them to prove that the group is working as a team.
gambling isn't a very good thing to get into. i lost like $600 playing black jack. but i made like $3000 shoplifting right before.

Online cardrooms are actually better at spotting collusion than live ones because they have automated tracking of who's sharing a table with whom, how often, how well they are doing, etc. In any case, you can probably get away with this in the short term if you have a traveling act. And as long as you're cheating, you might as well mark the cards.
Don't count on keeping my respect if you actually do any of this, however.

I did this a few times at a big casino and it worked fine. Never tried it more than like once every few months since we weren't that serious, and therefore we never had a problem with the casino.
I had 2 or 3 friends at a table and when they raised, i would come in behind them and re-raise, wait for everyone else to fold and then fold to his re-re-raise of me. Of course if there was still one straggler calling, i would re-re-re-raise and scare him out and then my friend would fold.
You have to watch out for people catching on, since at a live casino the players are usually pretty clueey. You could use it to your advantage of course and switch to only doing it on big hands.
It'd work better with signals and stuff but we never did that.
The hard part is getting all the players at the same table without it being obvious your friends, since when its busy the central desk usually tells you which table to go to.

If you have three poker players of equal skill on an online poker game, and two are in contact via chat and merely adopt the strategy of only letting the best hand of the two play would in itself greatly turn the game to their advantage. With more complex strategies it would be even worse.
I'd say its illegal and not right. Its a good reason not to get into online gambling. Poker has an important chance element aside from strategy and this screws with it.

True. I used to make a lot at online poker (well, a lot being a few hundred dollars every 3-4 months), but the play was laborious and safe.
My mate had some friends online that would do exactly that- share card information, the person with the best hand would be the one to try to take down the pot, and knowing those extra hole cards (plus other good players' opinions) would give you a huge advantage, they used to rape tables. Not moral though, I didn't really approve at all. I have no problem with taking peoples money fair and square, I gotta put it on the table too, y'know. And if you play a losing game consistently, drop the tables, and hit the books. Otherwise it is called GAMBLING, and gambling fucking sucks. I used to work in a bookmakers in one of the most impoverished areas of my country, and that shit ruins peoples lives.
Generally good advice is if you seem to be having very bad luck when certain players are at your table, avoid them at all costs. I haven't played in a while since I got a decent job, but I imagine the majority of tables are still fair.
I have a mate into card counting, shuffle tracking, and such techniques of Blackjack. Now you're probably rolling your eyes when I say that but he literally must be in the top ten card counters in the UK. Blackjack is a beatable game, but tbh, theres not any amount of money you could offer me for having to do years of monotonous practice drills and probability study. (Although I did make a few hundred dollars 'bonus whoring' some Blackjack sites, thats different though). Anything other than Poker or Blackjack, and you're a fucking retard, period.
The AI in poker-bots is getting fucking sophisticated now. I wouldn't be surprised if online play becomes impossible in 5 years due to the prevalence of bots.

did you see what happened after they let the guys win all the money, casinos like to see people win, it brings bigger crowds, boosts the excitement level of the crowd and encourages more spending... cheats dont get welcomed back and it's easy to get caught

Im sure the casino security would probably break your legs, kidding. But thats basically like you and a few friends sitting down at the same table to play. Your not forcing the other players to give up their money and your not exactly cheating. Me and one of my buddys do this at the pool hall and a bar when they have poker tourneys. It does work okay, sometimes we have little tip off's for each other if we have really good hands and what not.

Being one who grew up in Las Vegas I have never been able to understand the attraction to gambling. I guess I just took it for granted because it was around me all the time for nearly 3 decades. But I despise the thought of risking my money on any game of chance. I love to play cards and enjoy a good game with friends. But we just get out the chipsets, divvy them up, and go at it...no money involved. I think most people lose more money in a weekend trip to Vegas then I lost in nearly 30 years of living there.
I think if you want to gamble with your money you deserve to lose it to the guy who cheats better then you do. That being said, I think cheaters suck and they are probably part of the reason I despise gambling so much. Nothing worse then taking shitty odds and making them almost insurmountable because some dickweed wants to spoil everybodys fun. Of course thats what happens when real money gets involved, hence my disdain for it.

I didn't think this was even possible with Holdem.... seeing as how you you buy in, get your chips, and can't CASH OUT your chips. It's my understanding that you play until everyone is eliminated and there's no way to get any money out of it unless you finish first or second.

You're thinking tourney hold'em cash games are played with the ability to cash out whenever, because you bring whatever amount of money you want in. Tourneys have a dollar buy in for chips that arent redeemable.
