Panaeolus cambodginiensis: dry spores to cardboard > to wheat
    #7904079 - 01/19/08 11:40 PM (16 years, 13 days ago)

so i had a traded pan cambo very light print i wasn't sure of how clean it was laying around.

i had ordered an agar kit but my order was messed up and i thought i'd give the cardboard a try.

so i cut a cardboard circle and soaked it, placed it in a half pint jar and PC'd it. scraped some spores on to it and a few weeks later it was reasonably colonized.(pic of cardboard is halfway through colonization)

the hard part was using a scalpel to slice some wedges to inoculate the wheat. but it was done, only 2 days later it is spreading quite fast.

my conclusion is that this made the culture "less lazy" by feeding it cardboard - so it's taking over the wheat aggressively

also, in my opinion this is easier than making a syringe, and then you have a culture instead of spore solution, which colonizes the substrate a lot faster.

the only hard part was slicing the cardboard, but i guess it could be pre-sliced like a pizza

i am pretty satisfied with the experiment

I was just about to give you a wtf until i saw the pic. I would have nver thought that cardboard had enough sugar in it to get the spores going.
AS for cutting wedges. You could just scrape the mycelium off of it and use that but I guess you managed.
Very interesteing

the wheat looks fine. I am no pan expert but I believe that pan mycelium is finer than cubes, right? It looks good so far.

Sounds painful!

Sorry, I couldn't resist. Anyway, nice work. I thought cardboard was only good for clones. I would love to see how the grow turns out.

How long did it take for the spores to show signs of germination?
