    #7903853 - 01/19/08 10:28 PM (16 years, 13 days ago)

this is what i usually eat on a daily basis with the calorie count as well.

...Diet...
Cream of Wheat/Oatmeal(two packets) with lowfat milk = 300
Banana = 110
Apple = 85
Orange Juice(large glass) = 220

Subway(footlong turkey on wheat with cheese-heavy spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers, bell peppers, carrots...no condiments) = 660
Granola Bar = 180
Snapple Green Tea = 120

Subway(same as above) = 660 or Stouffers Garlic Chicken(2 servings) = 640
V8(large glass) = 100
Snapple Red Tea = 90

Total = 2525

am i getting the nutrients i need?

IMO, i would cut out the milk, even though its lowfat, its still homogenized and it probably still has antibiotics and hormones in it. try rice milk and see if you like that. i love the stuff. vanilla is great.

subway is not too bad, their meats arent too great though. if its not too much of a hassle, get a publix sub instead with boarshead. its real meat with no fillers.

V8 has alot of salt in it, get reduced sodium instead.

and its tough to say if youre getting enough. what do you do for a living? do you exercise? it sounds like youre eating fairly healthy though.

would soy milk do?

i work in a warehouse, 4 10 hour shifts. i have been jogging(10 min walk-40 min jog-10 min walk) 6 days a week but i think im just going to cut it down to my 3 days off and then walk for an hour on my work days.

i've been losing weight too. i have about 10 pounds to go until im at the lightest for my height(according to the charts i've been looking at).

i really dont recommend soymilk. if its not edamame or some form of fermented soy product, many people report gastrointestinal problems with them. if you like rice, almond or hemp milk, i would suggest them instead. rice is the cheapest out of the three.

you sound like youre on the right track. if anything i would go jogging less each day, dont cut it down to 3 days. run 1 mile every day, it takes like 10 mins. i run 2-3 miles a day on top of my workouts.

i would also suggest throwing more veggies, grain and legumes into your diet. those three are vitamin powerhouses and wont make you gain weight.

dude, are you kidding me? im 5'8 and 155 and i feel that im pretty good, im actually trying to add 15-20lbs of muscle. if anything, if you feel that you arent skinny enough or in shape enough, start working out more. 145 @ 5'11 is too skinny.

and 2 miles a day is roughly 15-20 mins.

Losing weight isn't what you need-- try exercise. Build up your abs. I'm a really slender woman --5'6 125 lbs-- but I still have love handles. You can't get rid of them without going under a healthy weight. The only time I've gotten rid of them since I was a kid was when I was in the hospital with pneumonia and hadn't eaten for several days. It's just not worth it.

yeah, i would reccomend doing more workouts to build muscle, building muscle also helps burn fat. and you never want to be on the lower end of the BMI scale, the middle is where you want to be. that really isnt the end all to the weight discussion either. i mean if you look at the BMI for me and where i plan on being in a year(im 5'8 and 155, i want to be 175 in a year) then it says im out of range, but in fact i will be very healthy.

build muscle, that baby fat will come off in time my friend.

also, if you want to help burn some of that look up two exercises and do them EVERY morning and even later in the day if you want, you can do them whenever as much as you want, but definately do them when you first wake up, before you eat.

1. farmer burns stomach flattener

2. the vaccuum

thats it. it works fucking wonders man. it helped me shrink my waist by a couple of inches and tighten my abs in a matter of just a month. it helps strengthen the muscle that helps hold your stomach in when youre not flexing.

definately do it in the morning. do it whenever else you feel like it. youll see results fairly quick. especially if youuse the stomach flattener with it.

i tried to find you a video of the stomach flattener but to no avail, so i will try to explain it as best as i can.

stand with fee shoulder width apart, arms at your side. breath in as much as you can and when your lungs are full, flex/squeeze your abs as hard as you can while at the same time breathing out slowly with your tongue on the roof of your mouth, you should be making a sort of growling, raspy sound out of your nose while doing this. do this until you release all of the air. when you finish, wait 15-20 seconds to catch your breath and repeat. do this 5-10 times. just like the vaccuum, do it in the morning before you eat, and any other time you feel like. it doesnt matter which of the two exercises you do first, but do them both. when it comes to abs, these two exercises are powerhouses. you could build abs just with these alone, but i suggest crunches, situps, leg lifts, L-sits and coffin situps as well. do them all every day and youll have wash board abs in 2 months. guaranteed.

sure.

i've been doing sit-ups with my push-up/pull-up routine.

what about the fat that i already have in my stomach area? if im 155 now, shouldn't it be easy to burn off once i gain some muscle. im far from skinny, i work a physical job and have a build in my arms/shoulders but i still have fat around my stomach....that's really the only thing bothering me.

alrighty then.

well first i would suggest to continue your walking/jogging schedule, 6-7 days a week. however, incorporate your workouts here with that jogging. its best to elevate your heart rate and warm up before doing the workouts.

1. stretch well. spend 10-15 minutes stretching.
2. jump rope or do jumping jacks for 5 mins nonstop.
3. do 15-20 pushups(any variation you want, hindu, diamond, wide stance, normal, elevated, handstand)
4. do 25-50 hindu squats
5. go for jog
6. give yourself enough time to catch your breath and cool slightly then begin workout.
7. do as many handstand pushups as possible(i started out only being able to do one.)
8. do 10-15 hindu pushups
9. do 10-15 situps
10. do 10-15 diamond pushups
11. do 10-15 coffin situps
11. do 10-15 elevated pushups
12. do 10-15 leg raises
13. do 5-10 burpees.
14. do wrestlers bridge for as long as you can hold.
15. do as many crunches as you can
16. do as many hindu squats as you can.
17. hold the plank in all three directions as long as you can.
18. 5-10 chinup/pull ups

you sh0uld be thoroughly exausted after this. once you can do this set and still feel like you could do more, the next time you do it, up each rep by 5. once you double the reps i posted here and can do the set easily, then its time to move to two sets, once you can do two sets easily move to three sets, once you can do three sets then its time to start upping your reps. i wouldnt do more than 3 sets, just keep raising your reps after that point. oh and only do numbers 7-18 2 or three times. i mean, if you can repeat them all go for it, but i dont.

rest no more than 30 seconds in between exercises.

currently i am up to:

elevated diamond pushups- 20
hindu squats- 50
jog- 2-3 miles
handstand pushups- 20
hindu pushups- 30
situps- 30/left 30/right 30/center
diamond pushups- 30
coffin situps- 30
elevated pushups- 30
leg raises- 30
burpees- 20
wrestlers bridge- 3 mins.
crunches- 30/left 30/right 30/center
hindu squats- 100
plank in all three directions - 1 min. each.
chinups/pullups- 20

i am at two sets of each, i can finish the first set easily, the second set really whoops me. i can finish most of them, but a few of the exercises i cannot finish the second set yet.

i also make a habit of handstand walking whenever possible. my job permits me to do this countless times a day. handstand walking really helps to strengthen everything from your waist up. i also have a chinup bar strategically installed in a doorway in the hallway so that way i have to pass by it when going anywhere in the apartment, i make a habit of doing 5-10 chinups/pullups when passing by it. dont forget to change up the variations also(wide, close, palms facing each other) also do L-sits whenever possible on the bar.

also i forgot to mention another exercise to do in the morning and whenever else you can. the tai chi waist turner.

this workout plus my little tips throughout the day will quickly chisel you into shape. this workout works just about every single muscle in your body. your dedication and willpower will dictate your results. so if youre not happy with the results, step it up a notch. there are tons of other exercises you can throw into the mix whenever you feel ready as well. if you have any questions about any of these exercises or any others just ask.

hope this helps lay.

p.s. look into drinking apple cider vinegar and honey daily to help burn fat. it also cleanses toxins from your body.

oh and one more thing. to accelerate muscle growth and recovery, you should eat a little protein(a peanut butter sandwich works great, dont use peter pan or jiffy though, use an organic healthy peanut butter, the others are loaded with sugar) an hour before this. eat a well balanced and healthy meal loaded with protein within 30 mins of finishing this workout.

choose veggies from a wider spectrum of veggies, esp. those with lots of vitamins and minerals

add garlic, onions, and leafy green vegetables to your diet. the more color, the better

also consider, all the veggies you're taking in at off-season times have such little nutrition in them that they're probably not doing you much good. unless subway's selling you greenhouse peppers and tomatoes, you're losing out on a lot. cucumbers are pretty much water and cellulose like most type of lettuce. no matter what type of bread you're choosing from their selection, it's going to have a lot of crap that isn't needed to actually make bread.

consider cutting out any prepackaged/made foods. once you get in the habit of it, preparing your own food is easy and much cheaper

maybe try adding a good bean mixture in there as well. rice and lentils are good too
