I Turned Down Free Morphine

A dumb silly question, but I wanna share it with you guys anyway.
Today I was offered some free morphine (i love morphine btw), but I turned it down. I didn't turn it down because I was afraid of addiction or anything of that sort, it was only one pill. I turned it down because I really had no desire to get fucked up on morphine.
This is where I'm confused, I had the option of feeling really good tonight, but instead I opted for just a regular ol night at the house. Humans love and crave pleasure, so why did I just turn down a really feelin good time?

It really depends on how your life is going. I'm guessing your life is busy and satisfying enough that an ordinary night at home seemed pretty nice. If you've got no job, no friends, nothing to do with yourself, etc. any drug seems pretty great even if it will do horrible things to you.

Morpheus, god of dreams, (not Lawrence Fishburn's character in The Matrix trilogy, but thoughtfully borrowed for it) is the same path that Persephone unwittingly took when she was abducted to the Underworld by Hades. You see, she was filling a 'thyrsus,' a fennel stalk with narcotic drugs that she was picking when the Earth opened and she was engulfed in darkness.
Would you prefer a stern lecture from a Master Addictions Counselor on the 'pitfalls' of narcotics, or a classic mythic description of the path to unconsciousness and death? Feeling good on narcotics has been the lure of narcotics since the beginning. WAKE UP Neo!
