High altitude, cold weather growing?
    #7900739 - 01/19/08 08:22 AM (16 years, 13 days ago)

Normally i don't give a "shout out" to anyone in my area for safety sake, but living at 9000ft i have a hard time keeping the humidity just right in my fruiting chamber. seeing as humidity up here is 0 during the -10 deg. winters! does anyone out there have any tips and tricks for keeping humidity just right in our humidity deficient areas? I am running a Martha greenhouse from walmart and have a Vick's impeller based humidifier with a reptile ultrasonic humidifier inside it to help boost humidity. the timer for it is on a half hour, off a half hour all day. *i put a little hydrogen peroxide in the tank to keep bacteria down.
It was suggested by another grower on here that i put wax paper over top of my cased rye grain to give it a boost in order to form hyphal knots and primordia. (yet to test this theory) does anyone have any others? it seems the setup i have, that i built from reviewing dozens of posts of people who have had success with it, should work.

Please edit your post to remove your location.

Simply run an additional humidifier or two 24/7 in the room your greenhouse is located. Get your ambient room humidity up to 50%, and you'll not have trouble maintaining humidity in the martha. This will also make your house more comfortable and much more economical to heat. In fact, you should run several humidifiers in your house during the winter.

The wax paper tek works great. Lift it to mist, and change it with a fresh sheet every two days. Wrinkle it up, and then flatten it back out so plenty of air can still circulate under it.

Nevermind, I did it for you. Please don't state your location until you retire from growing anything you wouldn't want your mom to read about in the newspaper.
