I used to have a mac. This was when rage cards were still around in those things. Good enough for unreal tournament!!

If you want a purpose built machine the mac is probably the way to go. What are you trying to do? If you want a multi purpose machine i'd say win, or unix if you'd like to take the higher road (less traveled tho)

not really looking for a gaming computer, i might play one here or there. im just looking for a good computer that wont crap out easily, or become obsolete in 2 years. and now i refuse to get vista, as it sucks ass, im sure you all know. and i know that eventually they will make everyone upgrade to vista and cut off XPsp2 updates.

im thinking about doing mac with the new OS10 or whatever its called and maybe linux, unless that is a useless combo. this computer will mainly be for multmedia and internet usage.

Macs wont 'crap out' easily, but may easily be obsolete in 2 years!
I'm hoping that microsoft will be smart and keep updating XP like they have 2000 well into the future. IF they like customers.
I dont know how well unix is suited for web surfing and media, but one thing to keep in mind is that most of that world is open source. I'm all for that, though the most i show of this is for xvid on windows.

I'd be really sad to see XP go. Seriously! Best os microsoft has come out with since DOS in my mind!

I've heard nothing but good things for Mac this year. Like practiley no viruses and LEPord is supposed to be like 100 times better then vista.
I bet a Mac will last 3 times as long.

I say go for it. Apple's a reliable platform, despite the fact that they use intel now vs. ppc. Whatever.
I dont think you'll be disappointed with mac. ROCK THAT!

After having serious issues with my PC I went out and got a Mac.

Best damn computer purchase ever.

I have had it now for 2+ years and will never, ever dream of going down the PC/Microsoft path again.

Microsoft is dropping XP support in June.. no more updates or security fixes after that.. consumers are locked into an upgrade to vista if they want to continue receiving updates.

I recommend an inexpensive pc running ubuntu. Linux runs on inexpensive hardware and the updates are free of charge as well. There's no need for expensive anti-(virus/ad/spy)ware software and there are literally thousands of free software packages available for anyone to use.

I've been using a mac pretty much all my life... I'd never thing of switching over to a PC. I'd say go for it... they last a pretty long time too. I had a G4 power mac that lasted for about 6 years before it needed any work on it. Then I just got it fixed for really cheap and gave it to someone I know who needed a computer.

Build your own computer and just load it up with mac osx much cheaper you can get way more power for your dollar building your own.

I've been using this MacBook for a few months now and I consider it to beat my old PC hands down. Very quick and streamlined, no errors or error messages to speak of and it comes loaded with some sweet software (GarageBand for instance). The only draw back I have found thus far is the Mac version of MSN. Very limited scope of features - doesn't even have web cam support.

I really like the battery life that comes with my mac. I recently switched and the battery life is the best part. 6 hours at best. No complaints yet.

in all seriousness, it's not a mac vs pc debate.. it's about what one intends to accomplish with a computer.. macs are pc's after all now..

*for cheap hardware with great performance*
for most people, an ubuntu based pc is going to do everything they could ever want including email, instant messenger, web browsing, filesharing, etc.. there are literally thousands of open source packages that accomplish all kinds of everyday computer tasks.

*expensive hardware and software with mediocre performance*
many computer users love to play games, and for that purpose I'd always recommend a microsoft based pc.. but that's expensive and now that XP isn't supported (see above post..) you'll have to make sure the hardware is cutting edge (very expensive) in order to run the new microsoft operating system. the *only* reason to use microsoft as a *typical* consumer is if you play games. open source has cheaper and more effective business applications than anything microsoft develops.

*quality product for a pretty penny*
if you've got money to spend on a quality product and you're not a gamer, go with a mac. apple makes quality products that *work together* very well. under the hood of osx is a unix kernel, so it has the stability of a *nix box (like ubuntu) with the "niceness" of apple.

consider what you're trying to do with the computer and go from there.
