My first Active? NSW Australia
#7900086 - 01/19/08 01:47 AM (16 years, 14 days ago) |

Habitat: Grass - Found in cow paddock, growing straight from a long patch of grass.
Gills: The gill color varies from a light to dark brown. Dark spores.
Stem: brown, pretty fragile, thin stringy. 5mm wide.
Cap: Brown to gray, smooth up to 1 inch.
Spore print color: dark purple.
Bruising: definite blue bruising.
Location: Picked in north NSW Australia
Thanks for any help. Had to dodge barbed wire, cows and an ATV equipped farmer to grab these. But it was fun.

I've never seen pan cyans before but the stems do look thin. But check out these ones were picked from the same area as you. Quite a few of those thin stems in there too.

He cruised past while i was sitting in the car, over a hill. I ducked into the field and grabbed what i could. Just got back into the car as he came back into view. was a bit of a rush actually.

Yeah, this time you got them. Like I said before, it is easy to get other inactive panaeolus mushrooms mixed in. Just make sure you got blueing on all. With more experience you will be able to tell though, even without immediate blueing. Classic cyanescens man, great find.

Thanks man. Bit of a learning curve. Found lots of Strophia and stuff that was to small.

Yes those appear to be a type of Copelandia mushroom, most likely Panaeolus cyanescens.
Here is a image to show how those mushrooms bruise blue:

For some reason it is not always easy to capture the "blue bruising". I suppose that it helps to have a red backround.

They are definitely copelandia cyanescens. I have picked these many times in cow paddocks in Australia. Very strong little buggers they are too. I hope you had fun!
