Do you believe in God?
    #7898999 - 01/18/08 08:15 PM (16 years, 14 days ago)

It's a simple yes/no.

Let's not argue about the specifics.
Do you believe in God?
You may choose only one

Like alot of people, I believe in something, not necessarily a god/goddess/any number of the two. On my first LSD trip I met a god-like creature, some kind of creator or watcher or something of the like.
I don't know, after reading a few books on the holographic universe theory and the string theory, I find it hard not to believe there's something out there.

The past inside the present;

You want someone to tell you that the christian god is the one and only god?
That would be "ignorant" right?
Nice response..............lol

----------------------------------------------------------------

Some people dont even feel the need to think about it on their own terms.
To assume nothing instead of something is inherently less complex and well, thats your own decision.
All religions aside.

Most of you are probably thinking within the context of religions that are fed to the masses.
Lots of supposedly independent and supposedly "smart" people often think of this in terms of, "is there an afterlife".
Have you ever really thought about it though?

I derive god from science.
Science is my god.
"It" is not some imaginary friend that I pray to.

I extrapolate information from nature to find god.
I find my own way.

Atheists are fine with me(they found their way) but people who call themselves Christian-agnostics etc do make me sort of laugh.

My approach to god is to find it by any means possible.
Its not my goal in life to find some true god.
I believe in finding truth, and god is the mathematician behind the veil at the very least.

God is what is.
God is within everything.
Existence is sacred to me.
I see order.
Even in chaos I see order.
I dont believe in any one faith.
I dont believe in any faith.
I do believe in what they can have to offer a person.
I do however believe in a (ONE) grand intelligence.
An unmoved mover not exclusively connected to any one religion.

Saying there is no such thing as god, is kind of like saying muslims are closer to god than christians etc etc.
Thats why I quoted who ever it is I quoted.
If you want to say that its fine with me. People say that sort of crap thousands/millions of times every day.

Thats a ballsy statement. Most atheists have no fucking idea, and when they approach the subject, they often are just rude and dont know or accept their potential audience. Im not saying all atheists are this way.

Finding my god through science is my path.
To see small parts of the unmoved mover.
Maths are inherently all the EXACT same throughout the universe, no matter the approach.
Just a metaphore.

Have fun finding even a reason to find a god that works the way you want.
I have no bindings and wont read any of those books again.
They do have alot to offer.

I have no single faith.
I do believe in god aside from any common religion or any crap about an after life.

I truely do.

Life is just that good.
Lucky you. A bundle of universe exploded and made your ass...........lol
I even get the opportunity to observe consciousness, and I dont waist that opportunity.
Thats how I started to believe in god through science.
Im very lucky too.
I didnt have to almost (from a scientific stance), start from scratch like I would have in a different "time".
Even in that case, I would still have my philosophy, but just perhapse a less "evolved" version of the SAME DAMN THING.

I believe in god.

Im not asking anyone to believe or disbelieve.

To understand the all-changing-changeless is to be enlightened.
Not to know that, but to act blindly, leads to disaster.
The all-changing-changeless is all-embracing.
To embrace all is to be selfless.
To be selfless is to be all-pervading.
To be all-pervading is to be transcendent.

How about God is the universe.

Sometimes it's possible to, in an attempt to define a theoretically possible god, over explain god to the point where you aren't talking about anything. I could say that god is the intangible love between two people, or some shit like that, but that's not what "god" really means, and the statement doesn't really mean anything.

You can define God however you want, but as far as the idea of a supernatural, all-powerful being, I'm quite confident one of those doesn't exist.

You can only have small parts.

Not the meat and potatoes.

God told me.........lol

Im not talking about supernatural beings.

Im talking about the intelligence behind the reason for science, The reason for all things.

We are working toward something.
It may have no end.
We do have to follow the rules though when evolving.

I dont know guruu.
Im not so sure you know enough about physics if you believe your last sentence to actually be true, that is, unless you dont see order that is beyond beyond.

Even a fucking algebra class or two could teach you something about the complexity of reality.

Dont try to tell me I was not saying ANYTHING.

Im not fucking writing a book here, so give me a break.
Read between the lines if you are one of those people who even sort of gets what im saying.

I am, You are, We all are.
God is.
God always has been, God always will be.
We have always been, since the very beginning.
We will always be, (in one form or another), as God is.

No words to describe this.....but I did (and still feel) that this word we call "life", is not a result of elementary particles forming over millions of years, in order to give me a conscious of my own existence

GOD.DAMN.
the word GOD puts me off. So many conflicting ideas, connotations and fucking world views about this one idea. So much "my gods better than your god, even if its no god" going on in the world.

Not saying that i dont believe in a beyond of sorts, just that it seems we project so much of ourselves onto the world that it makes it almost impossible to think in terms of there being an ultimate being in the hierarchy that weve created.
And since the original poster wanted a yes or no...then I'm gonna go with
MAYBE

God is just a word, a word we keep trying to define.

I think the meaning behind that word that we struggle with, is something that we cant place neatly in a box and explain. I imagine it is everything, but yet nothing... It is you, me, and everything in between.

I answered yes to the poll.

I call it the unmoved mover.

God is no stranger unless you have some hangups about religion in general(which has less to do with any true god, whatever god may be).

Its for you to explore.

That sucks.

I dont think we are talking about the same thing.

Im glad you have come to your own supposedly "unique" conclusion.

Good for you.

I cant offer you evidence of heavens existence.
That supposed afterlife is not even something I was talking about.

Everyone wishes there was some sort of afterlife.
That has nothing to do with what I was saying though.

I wish there was an afterlife too.
Most people live for their religion.
Their own afterlife.

In some way this is very selfish and godless.
To rely on an afterlife to dictate your actions on earth or to dictate your place in the afterlife.

I wish there was an afterlife too.
That doesnt mean I dont believe in god.

I wish I didnt see where all you pesimists are coming from, but I do for the most part.

Sorry so many people think god is not real and that he screwed you out of an afterlife.

Aint that a bitch.

You want life.
Ya cant live forever and its hard to even understand any supposedly divine text or thought in your head if that simple fact pisses you off.

my idea of an afterlife is that there isn't one.

and to me this is complete bliss.

don't get me wrong, i'm going to live as long as i can and enjoy the ups and downs of life, but when its all over and you die there is no more pain or suffering. no more good times or bad times. just nothing.

death is a beautiful thing.

we should celebrate it more often.

Most of us would agree there exist ZERO evidence for God or universal creator/universal spirit. The reason is "absence"...nobody is 100% sure what set off the big bang, but just because we don't know at the moment doesn't mean we automatically say a god/creator did it. Following that same logic, it would be illogical to assume we have souls or that there is an afterlife waiting for us. From the energy sources we have been able to detect, none of them have direct interface with our mind or body. So that would single out the existance of souls UNTIL it is scientifically observable, until then it is only wishful thinking.

yageman, I really want to thank you for posting that. It actually inspired me very much. I kinda want to say I believe the same thing as you, but I'm not talented enough with the language to word it as you just did.

EDIT: I was talking about your first post in the thread.

but yeah. Your post aside, I would have just said that I think there's a definite "grand reason" why all of a sudden matter started to complicate itself into genes, into D.N.A., into chromosomes, into cells, into you &me, etc.. other than a freak occurance of the "primordial soup" mixing in just the right way..

I have a weird hunch that "the will to live" existed longer than we know....

or some shit.

I was a Christian until 9th grade. I became completely athiest and saw no hope in their being a creator. Then I shroomed and realized how stupid that was. I still don't believe in an afterlife but after my ++++ trip I know there is a greater, beautiful purpose that is a little bit above our understanding. And I don't pray or anything, I don't believe that god is a person in any form or would want to help an individual in anyway. God could just be the force behind nature that causes it to evolve and change and want to survive, or some other concept we can't really grasp.

I believe in the God of the Bible and I believe He wants to give me the best in life and I believe He loves every one of us. There is nothing anyone could say to change that. I never was an athiest, I just hated God. However now that I believe in Him, I also believe He wants me to have the best in life like the Bible says and a funny thing happened when I stopped trying to form the religion to myself, but rather chose to accept I may not understand everything, but He is God and what He says goes. The main point I am making is the more I believ He wants to bless me, the more stuff He gives me. So I feel bad for those who go through life alone. I have seen demons with several other people , all of which had never done drugs before, so if they are real it stands to reason the other side is too.

I have been so abundantly blessed that I could go from a heroin addict/crack-head to a successful business owner, and for that I give God the glory. I respect all of your opinions though so please don't start blasting me for my beliefs. I don't push them on anyone

I'm not sure. I'm more a mix between an agnostic and a nihilist. Whether there is a God and whichever, if any, religion is correct, I just don't care. I worry about me and my life as it's happening and don't care to be scared by some sky-daddy (that may or may not exist) shaking his finger at me from billions of years ago.

I put yes. I believe in a force of pure love and positivity that permeates everything when one reaches a state of pure awareness. However, it's not a substantial thing- it's a state of mind rather than an external being. It's real in that one can ascend to a state of being in which there is only peace, love and wellbeing.

In terms of some magical man in the sky who judges people- NO.

It is impossible to know wheteher or not god exists, there is no proof for eaither side of the argument.
For sure religions are man made but that doesn't invalidate the concept of a god.

I'm not overtly disagreeing with you. If tripping has taught me anything its that there are things out there which I simply do not understand, so I feel it would be arrogant to completely rule out any sort of possibility.

I am very interested in physics, although I won't pretend to have the sort of understanding about it some people do, but I have seen how some incredible things are being explained by science, like particles being in two places at once (for some of you this is probably elementary physics but it aint for me). I personally believe that nothing is above science, that if there was a god it would not be above physics to explain him/it. So I don't know, maybe I'm actually agreeing with you, but I don't see science having any intelligence behind it in the form of a being. I think it's beutiful how natural laws can self-sufficiently govern our universe, and maybe that's what you're actually talking about, I don't know.

depending on the definition of "God"

I believe in an energy that you cannot hold on to or let go of, yet it is intertwined and is wound around and within every biotic and abiotic 'it/thing' imaginable.

Many people think they have to go somewhere or talk up some type of religion to find 'this' but the whole idea of finding something that you have no idea of is futile. It's not as if you're going to stumble across some ancient ruins that you'd be able to recognize from something you've seen in the 'past'.

The only way to find it is through yourself. And it's so new to anyone who experiences it that it surpasses explanation by words. And for that, it is wonderful.

everyone keeps saying there must be a god because what caused the big bang and blah blah blah....

well here is a concept that is hard for us humans to understand:

what if the earth, the universe, and everything else has always been around, an infinite universe.

why do you guys assume someone had to make it? if it's always been here there wouldn't have to be a creator.

well im gona interject something about this here. Well maybe praying to something non existant doesnt do anything but, if you give prayer to some one or energy via rieki over long distant it can be felt or vibes. If i can trip on ayahuasca and my friend in alaska can feel it cause im sending her vibes or my friend in CT and vise versa, then its not to far off to say that there is a collective net thing or web of energy. energy healing is a very real thing, feelings and thoughts can be sent via i dunno what to call it over distances. and if you want to say it doesnt explain what all people experience and myself.

I was raised a Catholic, but always questioned everything my young, influencable mind was fed. I think that's the thing I am most grateful for in my life - my ability, and passion, to question everything.

It has this that brought me to settle upon Taoism, for its sheer logic and reason. The universe is perfect the way it is, and its course will be taken according to its stipulations. There's nothing you can do about it, and there's nothing you SHOULD want to do about it - because there's no stopping it, and it's beautiful.

I do not believe "God" would be anything the human brain could comprehend - this is why you see so many religions where God is given human characteristics. This makes no sense to me.

I don't understand why humanity has to be so god damn presumptuous and stubborn about their beliefs. They are called beliefs for a reason - it's something you cannot know, because it is beyond human comprehension. You cannot know because you're hard-wired into a human body, which constantly needs more.. and more. You aren't meant to understand it. You're given the choice to bask in its beauty, be grateful to be a part of the circle of life, and celebrate the wonder of consciousness... or be the part of humanity which gives into the darkness of their own souls, and advocates the apathetic destruction of Mother Earth.

Just another organism consuming, and ultimately being consumed by its own over-consumption.

We will consume ourselves. And this "God" will never make an appearance, because it is a universal faceless energy that spreads so far beyond humanity that it would not find us important enough to manifest itself into a human (Jesus, etc.) to give us a message. As if anything would weigh more in importance to God- that which everything is.

It's messages are beautifully subtle and only the best observers can pick up on them.

It is undefinable.

I believe that it was not a good idea to make this thread in the psychedelic experience.

Aaaaaaand god could mean anything to anyone.  Soooo...

If you really believe this then there is still time for you to experience a true, genuine psychedelic experience.

How could any discussion of God not belong here?

I believe in a collective consciousness. =)

Not sure if that qualifies as a "god"

i hit yes, but its not "god" as in an actual diety, more like a force. Aum is the best way to explain my concept of 'god'

I remember being in DARE when i was much younger and some of the stories they would tell you are not only ridiculous, but completely untrue. One story was that a woman was on LSD and thought her infant was a turkey so she baked it in the oven. Now I look back and think thats hilarious, but at the time I guess it scared me.

I used to believe in Scince, but then he disappointed me. Scince is just not a very cool fellow.
