Norah Jones has an amazingly beautiful voice. You should check her out. Also see if you can get any recordings of Susan Tedeschi.

what sort of music? i'm a fan of a lot of indie pop/rock female artists and could give you a decent list, but i don't want to waste my time racking my brain if that's not what you're into.

For female vocalists, I'd go with Ann Wilson from Heart. She has the most powerful, female rock voice I've ever heard and she used to be really hot. Check out the Albums Dreamboat Annie, Little Queen and any other early albums from the 70's. She also has a really hot sister who plays great lead guitar in the band!
Also, check out Tiffany Christopher. She is a solo artist with avery engaging folk/jazz feel and her voice sounds like butterscotch. She's also pretty hot too but sadly she's a lesbian lol. Here is a link to her myspace and a couple other sites with her music. I promise she is well worth your time as most of my friends are in love with her.

Old thread, but a good one!
> Fiona Apple
Heck yea! I just saw her come out for a few songs at a very small theatre (150 seats) here in town, to play with a couple of the players from Nickel Creek. They even brought out John C. Reilly who played and sang some self-coined "hillbilly tunes". Reilly wasn't even on the bill, so it was really neat to see a big hollywood actor comin' out in the midst of such a small venue. But out of 'em all, Fiona had the most impressive powerful vocals by quite a long shot... not that I don't absolutely adore violinist and vocalist Sara Watkins of Nickel Creek, but her voice has a much softer breathy feel to it.
Now, for my submission. If you have a quality audio system that can reproduce high levels cleanly, crank up the attached bluegrass version of Broke-down Palace, performed by Dead Grass featuring Vassar Clements with vocals by Gwen Vaughn. Perhaps it is mostly that I love this beautiful song so much, but I find her voice to have a great deal of power and authority as well.
Play it!

Oh what the hell, I went on about how great Sara Watkins is, and I've really been diggin' her music lately, so here's a sample from her time with Nickel Creek...
