802.11 signal and 2.4 GHz wireless phones

I'm in a condo with quite a few units in my building. I've got an 802.11g router with a 2.4Ghz wireless phone.
They operate on the same bandwidth so I'm thinking about switching to a 5.8Ghz phone. Has anyone else done this and noticed improvement in their network performance? I'm just curious because the 5.8's tend to cost a lot more and I want to know if it's even worth it before I shell out 80 bucks for one.
Also living in a condo where there are probably a few other people with really cheap 2.4 wireless phones invading my airspace, I'm wondering if it will even make a difference if I switch or not.

Just FYI for posterity... I found this article:
http://telecom.hellodirect.com/docs/Tutorials/5.8GHzFrequency.1.031903.asp
Which warned that if you're going to get a 5.8 phone to avoid interference with 802.11 signals, then make sure it's FULLY 5.8... Apparently a lot of "5.8 GHz" phones will send signals BACK to the base from the handset at 2.4 to save battery... which completely defeats the purpose of getting a 5.8. I can't think of any OTHER reason to switch to 5.8.... the range is pretty much the same and the clarity is about the same as a 2.4
It's like people decided to make 5.8 phones and while building it they forgot the REASON they decided to make it.
I also read in the artcile that 5.8 interferes less with your microwave? WTF? So a 2.4 or less GHZ phone would cause my food to cook less evenlly in my nuker? that's funny.
Good thing I don't have a microwave.

Marketing... in general, people think that larger numbers are better no matter what, thus a 5.8GHz phone has to be better than a 2.4GHz phone. Have you looked at going the opposite direction? Perhaps an older 900MHz phone will work?

True, but I hear the signal isn't as good because the wave form is much wider (a few feet) which causes it to need more open space... so before the waveform can even REACH it's desired span, it's more easily distorted (not to mention the old crappy metal antenas that get bent all the time), whereas 2.4 and 5.8's, the span of the waves are smaller so they don't get AS distorted in an apartment because they don't need as much space.
In a wide open space, 900Mhz might work better... plus they use less power.
Another benefit of a higher frequency phone (from what I read) is a) less susceptible to eavesdropping... If you're the type that wears aluminum foil hats, then you can feel safer with a higher GHz phone.
