i saw this somewhere but im making sure. Im going to take a turkey bag and fill it with WBS. then take the top of the bag and put it through a piece of PVC and fold it back over. Then put a piece of tyvek on the top and rubber band it down and cover that with aluminum foil. im going to put this bag inside another bag and then PC it. I just wanna make sure this will work before i do it. any thoughts?

sounds like it would work.... I would just be worried about the bag melting.

Maybe. oven bags are really weak. It wont melt, and it might even come out of the PC sterile, but I doubt the thin plastic of the bag will survive the colonization. If you slightly snag the bag on anything, and I mean anything, its going to rip. And just the weight might blow the bottom of the bag out. I've pasteurized 50/50 in oven bags, it worked, but it seemed that extra water made its way into the bag during the pasteurization process, and I had one of the bottom seams blow out when I was casing. Definitely wouldn't recommend using oven bags in any applications, unless you were cooking a turkey. If your really careful though, you probably have a decent chance at success.

Don't try to use oven bags as spawn bags. You also won't find at your local supermarket what you need. Some supplies simply need to be ordered. I'd recommend the large gusseted spawn bags with filter patches. RR

If you're just looking for gusseted bags that you can filter-patch yourself check the Uline store. They sell them by the 1000's and the prices aren't bad. Oh and they come all the way up to like 8 microns and the picture is of the bag holding a chop saw .
