Fog and driving.
    #7895076 - 01/17/08 09:37 PM (16 years, 15 days ago)

So after hearing about the accident in florida and the fog, etc. I remember my roadtrip to the PNW and through some intense fog. Something was mentioned on one of the interviews about people not using headlights in fog. It's True. Most people are dumbasses and don't use their headlights.

I only bring this up because on my trip through most foggy areas, only about 1 out of every 4 or 5 cars had their headlights on. Half the time I didn't notice the other car until it was so close that a collision would have been imminent if that driver was in that lane.

I don't know what to say. I always drive with my headlights on in fog (partially because my all around limo tint makes it hard to see the unlit on cloudy days, and partially out of fear of death).

I hope others start to as well. Perhaps car manufacturers should make it so whenever you turn your wipers on, your headlights turn on. If it's raining visibility is reduced as well, so you should have them on anyway, right?

They probably heard that you're not supposed to use your brights in the fog (which is true), and misinterpreted it to mean not to use your headlights at all. It's little things like this that can turn one into a misanthrope.

Fog lights FTW.

Most cars have them nowadays. I didn't even know my car had them for a few years since I lived in a place without fog. Then I moved to San Diego and discovered my fog lights by pure accident. They work much better then the regular headlights, and have none of the blinding properties of brights (which are useless in fog).

I love driving in fog. It almost feels like you are in a different world.

that accident was less than 30 mins from me. crazy fucking shit. my buddy is a paramedic that was on the scene, he arrived near the beginning of the turmoil, he said the fog and smoke was so fucking thick you couldnt see but 5 feet ahead of you. he said every few minutes you could hear another car smashing into another and people screaming for help. I-4 was so damaged by fire that they closed it for more than a day to repave it.

and they say that you should have your headlights on, but not your brights.

I thought they made that a federal standard a few years ago?

*Meaning all cars by a certain date must come factory equipped with daytime running lights
