Screen Resolutions

Good day,
Recently I being wanting to customize my desktop and decided that I should make my screen resolution somewhat bigger. So I went to change it in settings, and I noticed I only have 3 resolution options, 800x600, 1024x768 and 1280x1024.
The slider bar does not allow me to adjust it to my own liking, so is there any solutions? I'm not sure about the specs of the monitor, but I could find them easy enough if I knew where that info is.
Anyway, Thanks.

You can't really set 'custom' resolutions (nor would you want to). Those are the resolutions that are supported by both your monitor + video card. How big is your monitor? is it an LCD or old school CRT?

Yes there is no reason for custom screen resolutions. Anyways 1280 x 1024 should suit you fine as long as you don't have a widescreen monitor or your not using an lcd, or flat panel hd television for a monitor.

The monitor is plasma flat screen, says Metro on top, I just want to have it customized for a game I play online.
Maybe I could buy a new graphic of video card?
Heres some more info that may help:

Thanks.

Set it to the native resolution of the monitor.
If you go any more (or any less) you'll lose the 1:1 pixel mapping and it'll look like crap.

Because you have a plasma screen. It is what they call a "fixed pixel" display.
The number of pixels displayed does not change.
If the image you want to present on the screen does not equal the number of pixesl that the TV is, then the image must be stretched or shrunk etc.
Imagine a simple square that is 4 pixels wide and 4 pixels tall (4X4).
How would you fit an image into that same square? If you had a an image that was 8X8, it would be easy, you could just cut the pixels in half (the proportion would be the same). But if you had an image that was, 6X4, you would need to distort it somehow to if it in the same square.
An example is a DVD. On an "old school" TV, a DVD has black bars on the screen. This is because the "rectangular" image produced by a DVD does not fit into the "square" shape of a TV.

You really cant unless you get a new video card. If your max is 1280x1024, id go with it.
But until you get a new card, it will probably look really grainy.
Most HD lcd/plasmas, or even standard screens are quite large resolutions. For example, i have a Imac, and my desktop is 1680x1050 which is HD. And even on my HD tv i can just barely read text.
Even some of the newer bargan cards will to 1680x1050, but you will need a wide screen, which your plasma probably has, else it will look squished.
